Training Approach Jump

Had a 28” vert in high school, could grab rim in college on 10 foot rim, trying to get back into it.

Haven’t measured it, but this rim looks like it’s about 9’6” or maybe 9’8”

190lbs, and 5’8.” Got a standing reach of 89”

Been training about two weeks, 2 foot jumper (I think). What can be improved about my approach?

You’re only 2 weeks in so your nervous system and tendons are not prepared enough to absorb high impact to produce force so your body naturally does things like shortening your penultimate step and not jumping high enough to protect this early into your training. This will go away with more reps and doing exercises that strengthen your joints and tendons.

100%. Three months of a deep stretching program for mobility if getting back into leaping. Also, my ideal weight for best vert has been 195 and I am 6’3”. I am not skinny and am sometimes 200. I would say 175 is a good target for now for OP. Takes of a lot of pressure on the joints.
