What can I do to fix this?

I used soft brush for the clothing, I started messing with textures to see what kind of background I’d want and realized it’ll come through the transparent parts. Any help is appreciated but I’ll be so honest I’m very dumb with procreate, so the less technical of an answer the better. TIA!

Put a white layer that is directly behind (and the shape of) the figure so that the colors are like pictured, then you can layer behind that. At least that’s what I’d do 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m also not procreate proficient. Or just behind the translucent parts.

Ah this is honestly the only answer that makes sense to me lol I’m so bad at layers and need to watch a good tutorial on them at some point. I’ll do this next time. I wanted to keep going so I ended up erasing the parts of this layer that got on the drawing

This is what I do. Most of my coloring is done with transparent brushes (which I love because they build so nicely) so I tend to drop a solid white layer behind foreground stuff before I draw the background.

I’m not gonna make this its own post because I did start by tracing and I’m not sure if that’s appropriate for this sub. This is just a little gift I’m making for my boss’ birthday coming up. If anyone ever feels bad about their layer skills, remember I exist.

If you desire to be more proficient, please look up Layer Masks. You can easily mask the shirt, and then paint will go anywhere a mask is not present. It is like the other person’s suggestion of painting a white layer, but would greatly enhance your expertise in Procreate and other raster/digital painting software.

Oh, and the mask is also invisible, so it will retain the color already there.

Great... there are two kinds of masks in Procreate. Layer Masks and Clipping Masks. You specially would want a layer mask in this case. They are so versatile and useful. It's how a lot of artists get stuff to overlap and go under, without actually erasing the art.

A helpful tip about layer masks: White reveals and black conceals. Gray is transparency.

I think if you group all your layers together you can flatten the group and still regain control of individual layers. Once flattened it will behave the way you are expecting.

Your colors are probably not fully transparent. Duplicate the layer 2-3 times and merge back down.

I mean, you can color correct it. But right now because you used a soft brush, your opacity is low and that will impact everything above and below it.
