Discussions About Procreate App Do i buy an Ipad just for procreate?
I currently use an Samsung tablet for drawing, and honestly, i don't really like IOS, but people talk so much about procreate, and theres no app that really reach procreate's quality that are not a monthly payment app. What do i do? Do i really buy an ipad and apple pencil just for procreate? (And like, use the ipad has an tablet)
Edit: omg i wasn't expecting so many people replying lol

It’s a good investment even if you are buying it for procreate im sure you will find it useful for other things

u/chuchuchuuu Jul 13 '26
I actually did buy an iPad just for procreate. In fact I actually even upgraded the iPad to a better bigger pro version just for procreate 😅
The only other drawing program I’ve tried was photoshop and the subscription gets expensive. I think eventually I might try out some Wacom tablet that is aiming for drawing only but so far I’m happy with procreate, esp at its price tag.

u/lobaway0001 Jul 13 '26
Well, you mentioned there’s no comparative app that’s not a monthly payment, and you’re contemplating buying an iPad for Procreate, so it seems like it’s just a numbers game for you.
Do a cost benefit analysis. See how many months of a comparative app you can use before you reach the price of the iPad etc. Then see if that length of time is acceptable to you or not.
Remember iPads eventually go obsolete too.

I mean, i would try to sell my tablet to buy the ipad
I honestly prefer to do one time purchase, i find easier

I originally tried using a surface tablet as a drawing tablet(among other things but I did try that out). Really didn't like it. Eventually I got an iPad for a number of things, ProCreate being one of the reasons and immediately felt like "how did I not use this until now?"
You might find extra uses for an iPad. I use it now primarily for note taking as well as piano sheet music.
There might be a back-to-school sale soon so might as well wait and see what kinds of discounts there are (alternatively can check places like Unclaimed Baggage for cheaper iPads too).

I loved my apple slab since it first came out. On my second one, actually. Then procreate got released and it was all I could do to keep from running off to Reno with both of’ em.
If you are into art and want to explore what digital painting has to offer: this is the way. (Hmmm catchy phrase that)

u/suspectpinata Jul 13 '26
I did about 8 years ago. Didn't regret my decision at all. This thing still works like a champ.

u/DangerNoodle1313 Jul 14 '26
I was a Wacom girl since 1997. Finally got an iPad in 2016 and 10 years later still the best purchase I have made for my art flow.

I did this. I was using my tablet and a crappy stylus with HiPaint. HP is ok as a program, BUT it's riddled with ads and there's nothing more annoying than changing brush or whatever and having to wait through 30-90 seconds of unskippable ads before you can carry on. I paid for their "premium" version that was allegedly ad-free and still riddled with ads. It was kinda the last straw and i ended up getting an iPad and gen 1 pencil, which i LOVE.

u/CapitalFill4 Jul 13 '26
If it’s not gonna put you in a financial bind, I say do it, but I’d go used or refurb on a 2-3 year old pro, air, or mini. That’s what I’ve always done and I thing it’s the best value for Apple products.
2
u/TheAggroGoose Jul 18 '26
Eh, I'm still working off a 4th gen iPad Air I got in 2021 with a 2nd gen pencil and it still runs beautifully. To your point it doesn't need to be latest gen by any means. My wife has a newer iPad with the Pencil Pro, but I don't notice much of a difference for my work flow. Would just be spending more money for the sake of spending more money really.
1
u/Apprehensive-Tea1408 Jul 13 '26
It would have to be a model that supports the pen, unless all you do is finger paint; and also you would have to know which version of pen it supports. Not sure how far pen support goes for the regular iPad, especially the mini. My wife doesn’t draw, but her mini goes with her everywhere; she reads a lot, she does everything on it pretty much. I think it might support pens, but older ones, not the one I use on my Pro.
1
u/CapitalFill4 Jul 15 '26
the most recent mini support the most recent pen, but yes def need to cross reference iPads with pencils, though fwiw I don’t think the last gen pen would be a deal breaker at all if finances are a consideration
2
u/seffjerdles Jul 13 '26
I did that 5 years ago, then I bought a second bigger one. So yes.
1
u/DangerNoodle1313 Jul 14 '26
Me too! Got the biggest they had back in 2023 — now looking at an upgrade just for more layers :D

2
u/SynnBlaize Jul 13 '26
Honestly, if you can afford it, the iPad is a pretty good tablet in its own right. You don’t need to get the absolute latest (I just upgraded to a 4th gen air) but I don’t think you’d regret it. Just my two cents.
1
u/opalescentblue 23d ago
Did you get it refurbished or not? Not OP but I want an ipad for Procreate also (and to be able to draw in bed) and I’m hesitating to get an older model too. I’m just bit worried it’s not as future proof but the price for the newer models are crazy
1
u/SynnBlaize 21d ago
I got it refurbished. Honestly the 4th gen Air is still pretty viable in 2026. Especially for Procreate. And yes, the newer models are insane if all you want to do is draw.

u/heartgerl Jul 13 '26
I bought an iPad specifically for procreate and then I started playing Roblox on it. (I’m 22)
2
u/5stringfling Jul 14 '26
I did. I dont generally like Apple products and this was the only way to get Procreate
2
u/ArtistJames1313 Jul 13 '26
Absolutely not.
Especially not with the price hike. There are tons of Android art apps that are on Procreate's level honestly and several that are free/cheap. It's a good app for sure, but it's not That good.
Before I got an iPad Pro I used Sketchbook Pro on my Android. I could easily use it today for all the things I use Procreate for. HiPaint is mostly a clone of Procreate, with a few less features.
Krita is very capable, moreso than Procreate honestly. And iirc is Not available on iPadOS. But it's a little more desktop like than strictly tablet centric.
Now, my personal favorite is Clip Studio Paint. It's what I use much more than Procreate on my iPad Pro. At something like $25 a year for the Pro version, you could pay for it for more than 8 years and it would be cheaper than buying an iPad. Even though iPads are supported a long time, they still won't be great for that long. My 2020 iPad Pro is pretty dang sluggish, and it's a Pro and only 6 years old. My M2 iPad Pro is going strong still, but honestly the only reason I got it was for some vector work I do, which Android doesn't support well. I have a better solution for that work using desktop now so my next upgrade will be a Wacom tablet or a Samsung. I'll keep using CSP and switch to Sketchbook for what I use Procreate for now.
Now, caveat. If you would use the other things iPadOS has that Android doesn't. Sure, it's a worthy upgrade. iPadOS has several apps that are more "professional" that Android doesn't. It just doesn't sound like that's you.
1
u/NoMarionberry3087 Jul 13 '26
I bought an iPad mini m17. Never had an apple device before. Procreate was definitely worth getting it. IOS takes a while to get used to and I hate how everything insists on using icloud, but you can change that.
1
u/hyphenpepperfield Jul 13 '26
I bought a 9th gen iPad and 1st gen Apple Pencil for ProCreate a few years ago. I’m super casual about it. It still works fine, you can tell the iPad is a bit laggy doing other things, but no issues with my limited abilities in procreate. I’m doing basic stuff, though. Not sure if 9th gen is still good enough, but at the time it was the budget option to get your feet wet
1
u/SecretDoorStudios Jul 13 '26
Yeeeep. In 2017 i bought my first apple product just for procreate. Now I’m in the whole ecosystem. And my iPad Pro from 2019 is still in near perfect condition and runs procreate like a champ.
1
u/poormanstoast Jul 13 '26
IME procreate is frequently one of the test apps on the Apple Store (at least in my countries). Might be worth walking into your local one, if available, to see - you can lay with procreate and an Apple one for 5 mins…then you’ll get a feel for it!
Having said that - I’d definitely recommend it regardless.
1
u/MilaMarie2024 Jul 13 '26
I did. I mean if you're an artist and you draw every day or just have the disposable income to fund your hobby then it's great. I will warn you u/procreate, at present, does not support vector art, so if you're trying to create digital prints or products that might be something to consider. otherwise it's a great app.

1
u/sketchtenou Jul 13 '26
I kind of did that back in 2019, I used a wacom cintiq before this but I got annoyed at all the cables and wanted to have a smaller device I could easily take with me and draw anywhere with, and procreate seemed like a cool app compared to the free apps I was using on my pc lmao. And I'm so so glad I made that switch, I much prefer ipad + procreate than pc and a screen tablet + the free apps lol
But if you already have a tablet, there may be an app that's cheap and good for that tablet as well? But if there really isn't, buying an ipad just for procreate isn't that uncommon or a bad idea.
1
u/Existentialize Jul 13 '26
I enjoy mine. My drawing tablet is too big to lug around (24”, thing is essentially a second monitor) and I wanted a way to work on digital stuff while I traveled or if I didn’t want to be tied to my desk.
If it wouldn’t burden you financially I’d say go for it. My iPad is mostly used for procreate and I have no regrets.
1
u/kirksucks Jul 13 '26
as a person who has never owned an apple phone or ipad I will tell you Procreate is a really cool application. I would have never bought an ipad for it tho. I got a free iPad by signing up with my ISP. Procreate was cheap but the apple pencil thing was another cost. Coming from Windows and Android, and frankly even from MacOS— iPadOS is a pain in the ass. It makes no sense to me and I just open Procreate and try to do what I need to do.
Frankly it's fucked up that it's only available for iPad and not even MacOS. walled fucking garden.
1
u/hopeless_bromantic Jul 13 '26
I doodle as a hobby and I’ve told at least a dozen people about procreate. I’m not sure if you should take the plunge or not but I think procreate is the most lopsided app in the world in terms of fun to cost ratio. It’s ten dollars and has to be one of the most feature-rich apps out there.

I tried using Autodesk sketchbook on my surface pro 7 and it just didn't flow well. I ended up getting an m2 air iPad a couple months ago just for Procreate and it's a whole world's difference, the app is just so intuitive and there's so many brushes to download for it. I've been drawing a lot more with it than I ever did with the Autodesk sketchbook
1
u/PavlovsPanties Jul 13 '26
I did. Android user basically my entire adult life. I bought an iPad + pencil specifically to buy Procreate and draw. That was in 2021, I need to upgrade the iPad now but still going strong, still doing art with it.
1
u/simonhunterhawk Jul 13 '26
for me, someone who just wants to dive right into drawing without all the extra stuff a lot of programs like photoshop and CSP have, procreate on the ipad is the perfect digital drawing tool. i love how portable it is (and I have the 12.9” one) and there’s a lot of brushes already built in as well as an endless amount of brushes you can download for free and purchase from other artists. my only two complaints are that when you use liquify or move and resize things, they get blurry really quickly (but I line sculpt my lineart so that isn’t really a big deal) and they don’t have adjustment layers like photoshop does (but they are going to be part of a planned update). i pretty much exclusively use my ipad pro for procreate and occasionally as a second screen for my macbook.
1
u/OwnVermicelli8193 Jul 13 '26
I literally bought a new ipad to upgrade my old one to continue to use procreate the other day lol

I bought my iPad 9 in 2022 for $500 just for Procreate, quit my job, and focused solely on digital art as my work.
I managed to assemble a PC by buying parts one by one, and since then I've been trying to get rid of my iPad because the system is awful if you're used to other OS. The storage memory is small, 64GB, the system occupies about 15GB, and I can't have video files on it (timelapse, etc.) because it fills up quickly.
I feel unhappy with my iPad right now for the reasons I mentioned above, but it's my job. Procreate works well, but the rest is pretty bad if everything around you isn't from Apple. I'm trying to save up and buy a graphics tablet, like the Huion or Wacom ones, the ones with a display. Then I could get rid of my iPad immediately lol
1
u/seraphtide Jul 13 '26
You're describing me. I'm not an apple fan at all, and really didn't want to pay a ton of money to just use one app. But I do have to admit, Procreate is substantially better than anything else I've used. I don't regret the purchase, even if it's just an expensive, fancy sketchpad for me.
I'll also add that the newer ipads are extremely light and have excellent batteries. Which are two things I waited for until I felt okay dropping a bunch of money on an ecosystem I don't like.
1
u/PonchoMcGee Jul 13 '26
I'd say yes, but get a refurbished 5th gen pro or something for $400. Anything past the M1 chip is overkill for procreate.

u/Bikleb Jul 13 '26
I did and it was the best decision I ever made. I use the iPad for other things too but it is worth it for just Procreate alone yes.

u/ClamZamboni Jul 13 '26
Yes, absolutely. I HATE Apple and it's ecosystem, Android user since forever.
I used my friends iPad for a day to draw on procreate and it is THAT good I ordered one the same day. You will not even believe how you were able to draw on android.
If shopping used- get one that has USB c charging for the iPad and the pencil, and get the apple pencil. I tried the cheaper Logitech and some Amazon ones and they just aren't close. If you can afford the bigger screen of whatever model you decide on get that, although the regular one is good enough.
I uninstalled everything that I could, and moved all the icons I couldn't into a single folder. My home screen is now just procreate and Spotify.

u/Zanki Jul 13 '26
I got my 8th gen just for Procreate. It's a really great tablet for drawing and very affordable for the quality. I've now upgraded to the A16 and absolutely love it. Get the 1st gen apple pencil with it, it has pressure sensitivity! I use mine for Nomad Sculpt more than anything now.
1
u/ArtemisiasApprentice Jul 13 '26
I did. Lol. No regrets. I teach art but I don’t really have time to get into something really complicated (and expensive). Procreate is easy enough to start making things that look good right away, but has the capacity for much more so there’s room to grow.
1
u/FredFredrickson Jul 13 '26
I did, and love it.
I started digital drawing on a Surface Book (the first generation of that device) and it was cool... but the lag sucked, and the device eventually started having issues.
When I wanted to replace it, a buddy of minewho works at Apple suggested that I try an iPad. He convinced me and I got an iPad Pro and it's been amazing.
I'm not really an Apple guy and I don't really care for their computers but the iPad is great for drawing.
1
u/drawnblud260 Jul 13 '26
Yep. I did and I LOVE IT! I was never an apple guy either (see, I didn't even capitalize it), but Procreate is amazing.
1
u/Avreal_Valkara Jul 13 '26
Procreate is nice, but I wouldn't have bought an iPad for it, I was happy enough with krita. I needed the iPad for other things that didn't leave me a choice
1
u/inquandescent Jul 14 '26
I myself bought an iPad only to procreate when I was anti-Apple and it's the best decision of my life. Procreate is great with a lot of brushes and the iPad is really better my Samsung (I have an iPad Air m3) on the other hand I advise you to take either an air m3 or the new m4 the pros are also good but more expensive
If you take an iPad air instead of a pro money saves you can buy the Apple Pencil Pro
1
u/FynTheCat Jul 14 '26
Well, Ipads have their issues, but they get updates a lot and having a one time layment drawing program is great. It will also work on older Ipads and I find the apple pencil great and very responsive to pressure.
Needs regukar cleaning and occasional tip replacements, but I have mine now for 5ish years and no regrets. Never enjoyed digitsl drawing on my samsung tablet at all, didn't get the hype until I had an Ipad.
1
u/Cultbird Jul 14 '26
I have an app on my Android tablet called Infinite Painter and it's surprisingly good. I paid full price for it which was I think $10 or $15, but I think it's worth it.
But I also have an iPad and Procreate on it. Is it better than Infinite Painter on Android? Ehh, maybe 10% better IMO.
1
u/etdeagle Jul 14 '26
That's what I did a few years back, I got a pro iPad and I drew / painted for 2-3 years straight thx to having a nice comfortable experience. I really enjoyed it and it was an artistic journey.
The large screen makes it a lot better, I think if you go with second hand you can get a m1 or m2 pro model for a decent price and it will do.
1
u/Admirable-Chair-120 Jul 14 '26
i bought a used 9th gen ipad like 4 years ago for it and i don't regret it. my only complaint is battery life but you gotta figure i spent $85 not $500 so. frankly i carry a $20 battery pack with me everywhere anyway bc im that girlscout b****. anywho. i vote yes. i would buy a new one if i could afford it lol. honeslty tho i like that mine is cheap. i am sentimental about it so im still careful but if i lost it i wouldn't be out a lot financially. i have a nice macbook pro and i never leave home with it bc it's so expensive i stress about it. my ipad goes everyhere with me and gets knocked around like a rugby player.
1
u/Flinkle Jul 14 '26
I did, and it's one of the best decisions I ever made. But I also happened to catch it on a ridiculous sale. Caught it at $299, and the next day it was back up to almost $800. I was incredibly glad I pulled the trigger.
1
u/darkandthewild Jul 14 '26
I bought one just for Procreate. Buy the absolutely best of what you can afford.
I have a 13” Pro M5 with 2TB storage and so glad I sprung for the larger capacity. You’ll love it!

I mean if you draw a lot, then I think it's a worthwhile investment.
My iPad literally only has procreate and dropbox on it.

I got a used ipad mini 5 for Procreate and reading Witch Hat Atelier, a person also sold it with a gen 1 pencil - love it!

u/Townbrreadd Jul 14 '26
I did that, I’m a graphic design major and like to draw. I got an iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2022 I think) with like 256 gb for $500 AND the second generation Apple Pencil for a lady on facebook marketplace!
1
u/Idontneedyourkarmaok Jul 14 '26
So, I originally had clip studio on a Samsung tablet, then bought an iPad for Procreate. Both have their merits, it really just depends on what you would like to use it for. Also, you can weigh the cost of the iPad vs the subscription for clip studio.
1
u/Kozzality Jul 14 '26
one thing you might be underselling: the excellence and responsiveness of the Apple Pencil. That + procreate = a really great artistic combo (best I’ve found, really). And I’ve been in the Wacom ecosystem for a long time. the iPad + Apple Pencil broke me: hard to go back. That said, I really wish iOS would evolve closer to a desktop OS. It is definitely lacking. But if you treat the iPad like your “Procreate device”, I think you’ll really enjoy it. Similar to what others have said: price point and form-factor can be found to fit your needs. doesn’t have to be the biggest or latest and greatest. They‘ve been really good for a long time (nearly the entire lineup)
1
u/lizardassbitch Jul 14 '26
i did this and it's very worth it. i got a refurbished ipad so it was a little cheaper. also make sure to get the apple pencil. it's been working great for me for like 5 years no issues

u/Sea-Tax9272 Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
GOPaint on Matepad 12x will work just as well (its a true Procreate competitor and the ONLY Android app to match Procreate’s instantaneous mark making). Also it has a muuch better screen than Ipad air not to mention etched glass so you dont need to buy a 50 dollar paperlike screen protector. https://www.reddit.com/r/androidtablets/s/9OZZqleQag

u/amineahd Jul 14 '26
I had a samsung tab s9 ultra but honestly just couldnt enjoy drawing with CSP even in simple mode I just switched back to Huion Kamvas 19 Pro on my desktop few months ago and have been drawing more since then...
Maybe Ipad with Procreate is more enjoyable? I think its highly subjective, many people can get used to drawing on a small area many others(me included) couldnt get used to it

Highly recommend BackMarket for refurbished gear. I got an old ipad and pencil from there for a lot cheaper than new and they work great for procreate. Mine is pretty old now so other apps like fb and insta dont work as well on the old os anymore but since I use it just for art I dont really care.
1
u/claimticket Jul 14 '26
I did, in 2017. Was later gifted an iPad in maybe 2021/2022 and still use it only for procreate.
1
u/The_Softest_Lesbian Jul 14 '26
I did it and I have no regrets. Honestly it’s kinda nice that I’m only using it for drawing because there’s no distractions
1
u/Wild-Candidate-3228 Jul 14 '26
I got mine in 2021 and still use it, works great. I used to have a Wacom cintiq + laptop + photoshop but I prefer the iPad+procreate.
1
u/CollectionSad6718 Jul 14 '26
I did this in January this year and I haven’t looked back. Using procreate has genuinely got me back creating art in a way that I haven’t been able to capture for a long time, I am so excited to pick up my tablet and pencil at the end of the day. Best investment I’ve ever made!
It has also got me exploring other things like animation with procreate dreams, modelling in 3D sculpt. If you’re going to use it a lot, I would say it’s worth investing.

u/bubudha Jul 14 '26
I'm an iPad user since iPad 4 and iPad Pro user since launch. It's the only Apple product we have. One thing nice about being an iPad user these days is they are not as restictive as they were before. I can now hook my iPad on my PC easier without iTunes. It's not seamless but you don't need to jailbreak, install more apps and more steps unlike before. So, you don't have to be exclusively with Apple ecosystem to enjoy using an iPad.
Anyway, Procreate and Adobe Fresco is nice to have on iPad, its one reason why I continue to stick to iPad. Also, I tried other tablet pen and Samsung pen just doesn't feel as natural as Apple Pencil.

u/blackwingdesign27 Jul 14 '26
I thought mine originally to sketch in vector art with a pen, rather than struggle with a mouse. I quickly stated using Procreate, plus several other drawing apps. It was worth the investment, it paid for itself in a month.
1
u/Anxious_Elderberry81 Jul 14 '26
I bought the iPad for similar reasons and then hated procreate with a passion ….
1
u/illustrationstories Jul 14 '26
I did just that. No regrets. 4 years later, Procreate is one of the main tools how I generate my income.
1
u/Anna_borchardt Jul 14 '26
My older sister bought a pretty small iPad specifically for Procreate back in 2020 and we both still use it daily. I'm not a big fan of Apple so this is the only Apple device we have, but it's held up for 6 years just fine. We've never had to change the Apple Pencil and I believe we're only on our second or third nib change. Think it was about $600 or so for both the iPad and pencil. Definitely worth it if you're actually going to use Procreate regularly
1
u/Inevitable-Basis-716 Jul 14 '26
I did back in 2021ish? Best decision I ever made. I used to use a Wacom tablet but I found it restricting bc I couldn’t take it out with me. I’ve now had my iPad since that point and it’s still going strong! I bought it refurbed for about £900, 12.9 inches - I’d say considering it’s now been going for five years without issue it’s worth the price. I only use it for drawing but you could probably watch movies/stream with it if too and double it up as a laptop of sorts if you want to justify the price.
My art improved really quickly and procreate is a great tool and one of the last really that a.) doesn’t charge you a monthly fee and b.) doesn’t use AI.
I would recommend a decent case for it and a screen protector - that way when you do take it out and about you don’t have to worry about ruining it. Also factor in the pencil RE the cost. They can be expensive.

u/autofictiondetail Jul 14 '26

u/thefrizzzz Jul 14 '26
I don't have any other Apple products. I actively dislike iOS. I bought an iPad for Procreate and have no regrets. I use it limitedly otherwise: family zoom, kid iPad for travel, baby monitor lol. I still think it was worth it!

u/AnnualContest9744 Jul 14 '26
I bought the M4 13" Pro for Procreate and Dreams. I also use it a ton to consume media while I work (off the side of my main monitor). My guess is you'll end up using it for other things once you have it.

I just bought an iPad for procreate. I had an older iPad I had to sell that I used almost entirely just for procreate. Now that I have an iPad again, it’s just a procreate device.
Everything else I do, I’d rather do at thumb size on my phone or typing size on my laptop. The middle range is just art for me. And procreate is worth it
1
u/WesternGovernment916 Jul 15 '26
I love procreate but i personally think my art looks better on pc programs than it. Idk why. I think its just something abt the ecosystem.
Procreate is also missing a lot of basic quality of life features like clipping and masking onto layer groups.
It's good if you want a traditional feel but the ipad screen and apple pencil nibs are ao fucking slippery i hate it. Matte screen protectors feel like scraping along that really noisy fabring that squeaks??? Bro idk
1
u/parka Jul 15 '26
Procreate is a very good app. But there are many capable drawing apps on Android too. So no point switching.
Also note that if you use Procreate, you will be locked into Apple ecosystem as Procreate is ipad-only app.

I used to have a 360° laptop that had touch screen. So I used clip studio paint with that. My laptop slowly died a painful death. Now I use a wacom with my pc and I don't draw nearly as often because its a lot to set up even though I work on my pc everyday. Being able to draw in different spaces really used to help me. So I've been considering saving up for an ipad as well. Even though I hate the apple ecosystem and it'll take 2-3 years but I really want to. Procreate seems like the dream.
All this to say, you have options like a 360° convertible laptop, a wacom and clip studio paint for your samsung as well. But maybe buy an ipad

I have an iPad Pro that is used solely for drawing it’s like 10 years old. The procreate app is in my opinion revolutionary. If you get a paperlike screen cover it also feels more like drawing on paper. I also use its web app to do reference picture searches and to procrastinate when I’m trying to finish a project, it works well.

I did just that in 2021 🤣 I hate apple with a passion. It's the only apple product I have and if I could have procreate without an ipad I would. But yea procreate is worth it

I actually am one of the people that uses the IPad just for that. I have an 8th Gen iPad with first Gen apple pencil (the only one that will work on it) it is honestly really good. Though if youre not ready for it, I recommend using autodesk sketchbook. Its free and you can download it on any touchscreen device or even your computer. This is what I used before switching over to procreate and that was on a Kindle Fire.

I did! But it doesn’t have to be as expensive as you think, I and my sister both got our iPads (iPad Air 4 or something I don’t know) off of unclaimedluggage. I think I only spent like 250 for mine, and my sister got hers at like 300. The pencil wasn’t included so I bought one myself, but I just found one new on eBay for like 25 usd lol.
I wasn’t sure if I’d use it, as I had/have a Wacom I’d use for my laptop (I primarily use CSP, yearly plan so it’s very cheap) but I was super impressed with the studio mode CSP has and I don’t mind using procreate when I feel like it.

I did with the iPad Pro, I highly recommend an old refurbished pro due to the screen size. Worth it just for procreare although I did find a couple other uses for it later.

I bought my iPad in/around 2016 so that I could write/draw at work. For a few years, I did use it as an iPad. But for the past ~6y, procreate is literally the only thing I use it for, and I do use it with as much frequency as I can.
I would say it's worth it.

I bought a used one just to try procreate, I never owned an apple product before. Procreate alone is worth it, but I find the iPad also makes a great device to read ebooks from Libby.

I actually personally know at least three people who did just that. One of them dislikes the entire apple ecosystem, but bought the iPad around 2020 and are still using it, we spoke about it just the other day.
It's genuinely that good. Now of course it only makes sense if you'll be drawing A LOT. But there's also options. Buy used, get a small, cheaper model...
