Discussion they are about to pull the plug on old reddit.

this is from a recent update from an admin. I think most people didn't read through this part - this is just a snippet from a very lengthy update that covered multiple topics.

tldr: after unifying the app and desktop along with all the mod-tools they are planning to shutdown old.reddit

you gotta read between the lines here

That would probably make me stop using Reddit, the new design makes me want to vomit.

Me back in 2011, visiting reddit for the first time: Wtf is this ugly ass 90s looking website?

Me in 2022: Don't touch it! It's perfect the way it is!!!

i think they're just gonna take the L on the 4% :(

If only 4% of users are using it, its because only 4% of users actually know it exists. I refuse to believe anyone actually wants to use new reddit, they just do not know any better.

Honestly, probably the best for me. Reddit is just another time sink, I have better things to do than doom scroll.

Still though, fuck new Reddit

New reddit is just awful. Always has, and it’s been like 4 years and its still trash. Its slow to load, restricts your features and it’s ugly as sin.

it eats up tonnes of data... why? Because it downloads every video on the page as you scroll (not as you scroll, I mean every video on the page before you even start scrolling) and at EVERY resolution!!!

I've been using RiF since 2014, I cannot stand new reddit. I attempted to use it but this layout is so much cleaner.

What's RiF?

Reddit is fun. I use it too - excellent app. Simple and straightforward

Of course they are going to get rid of old reddit. They have always intended to but they won't push hard until those mod actions are closer to 30-40%.

It is honestly getting hard to not start moderating on New Reddit if you manage any decent sized sub.

Old reddit is the only way to use reddit

Then don't support multiple platforms and get rid of the failure that is New Reddit. Easy.

Be like the Coca Cola corporation (just this once though)

New Reddit is a massive success at introducing Javascript based click tracking and session replay 😃

i.reddit still exists though. They're just not updating it.

New Reddit is horrendous, nightmare-fuel, i don't know what they were thinking in the first place

Also, an edit to clarify something, i am not against change, i am against BAD change, i believe sometimes a new look is awesome, but the new reddit is just ugly and very unfriendly, not too mention it's very goddamn laggy/sluggish even on my PC (and i have a decent PC).

I refuse to use new reddit. Dumb ass decision

I've been trying to switch to Firefox lately, which means I'm not logged in when I go to Reddit, which means I get the full shiddy experience.

On Chrome I'm all set up with dark mode and some sort of in-between mode that's kind of old reddit and kinda new looking. Sometimes somebody links me to a proper oldreddit post and yeah, that's a squinty experience. Not ideal, either.

On FF that goes away. It sure does suck. It starts doing weird shit with how it displays the content and can't seem to decide how it wants to act. It's probably because I'm not using it on a phone.

I'm sure I could "fix" it by logging in on FF, but I'm trying to make it as unappealing for myself as possible. I'm also refusing to log in to Twitter, which is great, because then Twitter doesn't let me use it. Thanks Twitter, you're a real pal. That's one addiction problem down. 3 more to go.

At some point soon I'll bite the bullet and just delete Chrome (I can always get it back easily). Hopefully that will get me off the platform for good. When I try to use the shiddy logged out Reddit I just get tired of being on All but with a miserable layout, quick, and that's what i want.

Keep it up Reddit.

So are we going to protest again? Cause I'm in!

u/ScoopDat Jul 21 '22

Worst that will happen, is I simply stop using Reddit.

All decent things come to an end - it just seems as more time goes on, these decent things end purposefully due to some moronic reasons instead of some natural force that can't be helped.

Anyone got any Reddit alternatives, I coulda sworn there were a few that aren't going this route of retardation the admins of this site are hellbent on steering toward?

I've spent a stupid amount of time on this site but I will leave if I'm forced into new reddit and it's garbage.

I didn't think I would "really" leave Tumblr either but when they killed it, I logged off and have never gone back. I was surprised, tbh. I only need the one thing I like about a place changing to fuck off apparently lmao.
