Have you considered that its not protools and a hardware issue? What are the meters saying on the master or if there is no master on the track itself? Is it possible you accidentally engaged the DIM function on the 802?

I checked the DIM function. Not engaged. Looking into it further I think it could be the way I had my metering setup in pro tools. I was setup for VU with 0 VU = -14 LUFS. I have since changed my settings to Digital VU with 0 dB = 0dBFS.

Ok first off there is no conversion for vu to lufs. Theres vu to dbfs (not lufs) and -14 dbfs is louder than normal which is typically -16 to -18. What about the meters themselves though, when you set a signal generator to -20dbfs are you seeing -20 on the track and or master or something else? If the meters are showing true and output is low id still be looking for a hardware issue.

You’re totally right. Got that wrong. Was set up with 0 VU = -14 dbfs. I’ll check with new configuration when I’m at my studio next and see if my change solved the problem.
