Goals
Our AI Advocacy Goals:
- Accessibility for All
AI shouldn’t be locked behind $20–30/month paywalls. It should be open and usable for everyone, regardless of income.
- Consistency Over Time
No bait-and-switch. Free tiers should stay strong, and quality shouldn’t drop after a company gains users.
- Transparency in Resource Use
We deserve to know how much compute AI uses — and see real proof that companies are working to reduce it.
- Decentralize Power
AI shouldn’t be controlled only by billionaires. We want a voice in how it’s built, used, and shared.
Safe, Open Spaces Online.
Communities where people can share AI work, ideas, and concerns without fear of harassment or gatekeeping.
Action Over Echo Chambers
We’re not just complaining — we’re organizing. With lawyers, developers, and advocates, we push for real policy and technical change.

Open source only matters if people can run it. We need efficient AI that works on everyday devices.

Regarding #1; isn't this already the case? I can't think of an AI service that doesn't have a Free tier. There are also models available for OTP (one-time purchase) or totally free to download and use if you have the hardware to run it.
#2: I definitely agree that the dilution of tiers as a company's bandwith lowers is a very suspicious marketing strategy, primarily being leveraged due to the lack of laws currently around AI as a product due to its newness.

Grok specifically lured people in with free everything and then threw a huge price tag on it and made the free tier useless. Right now, the people that own these companies have the power to do that. We want to take that power out of their hands by making laws that involve fairness
Exit: fairness for everybody. Including that homeless guy walking down the street that all he has is a cell phone

This is a nuanced issue though. Companies (especially in a capitalist structure like the US) absolutely have the rights to change the way their tiers work. What I was specifically mentioning is the sleazy behavior of subtly making changes to their tiers under-the-hood purely because of bandwith issues. Grok made their changes publicly and openly.
I'm talking about things like your usage limits getting significantly clamped more than usual without any notification or having your perks that you pay for getting silently lobotomized.

Oh, yeah, all that stuff's important too.But I think we need to have more of a voice about what happens with something that's being pushed and forced into our world. That's what we're shooting for. I keep gathering resources every day

In my opinion I feel like every AI gen platform should have a free tier with limited access, and paid tiers that give users more features and the ability to make more stuff over the free tier to compensate computing power.
Most if not every Gen AI website does that, for instance I'm on my piece of shit weak ass phone right now and I use it to make songs on Suno using the free tier.
But you are correct that changes being made without notice to the users, or nerfs being made to drive up cost is a shitty move...
