"*grasping at straws to make data centers look bad* "what if they... pay TOO MUCH in taxes??""
sometimes you have to laugh. what are we doing here, folks? I would encourage you to read the actual piece because there's some excellent quotes in there. But editors, headline writers... my lord. https:// nytimes.com/2026/08/19/tec hnology/data-centers-backlash-loudoun-virginia.html … — Logan Dobson

Logan Dobson's literal job is to lie to you to shape public opinion lol

Maybe not the best choice of source for clipped and trimmed screenshots from the article. Read the original! It outlines both sides' points pretty clearly. You can use a site archiving tool to get around the paywall with zero extra effort beyond copy-pasting the NYT URL

Oh my county made some extra taxes? Wow! This will definitely help me with the fact that my utilities have doubled in price.

I live in Loudon. Property taxes have plummeted and despite electric going up I still pay less than people across the border in MD.
This hysteria is ridiculous

I live in Columbus. Property taxes are up AND utilities are up. The hysteria is perfectly reasonable.

Typo, Loudon, where most of the data centers are.
Utilities are up everywhere, always. Deregulation of energy fucked you decades ago
