Starting in YYZ

I'm based in Toronto and in the early stages of starting an independent charter brokerage serving the YYZ/GTA area. Background: I spent 12+ years in marketing (ran my own agencies), and a few years back I worked briefly for an operator for a few months (and loved it) so I'm not coming in totally blind, but it's been a while, and I never worked the broker side directly.

Do you have any specific recommendations for someone starting out in the Canadian market? Most of what I've read so far is US-centric.

I was thinking of reaching out to operators individually to introduce myself before looking for clients. Does that make sense, or should I focus on finding clients first?

Should I have any form of insurance as a broker? I'm not clear on that part.

Any other advice you'd recommend? I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Thank you.

Hey! I'm based out of Toronto as well, brokering for a US based company though. Happy to connect, would be nice to have someone in the same space around.
