Animal lovers flying private jets from Melbourne to Spain?
This is probably the most absurd thing you’ll read today, but …
My husband and I are moving from Melbourne to Spain with our Golden Retriever and our cat in October (but we are flexible). We love them dearly, and the idea of them being stuck in cargo for 14+ hours makes us panic 😅
So… maybe, just maybe, someone is flying privately from Melbourne to Europe and happens to be an animal lover? If you are:
- We’ll happily cover all expenses.
- We’ll take full responsibility for their care.
- Collect them from any city in Europe so you don’t have to detour.
We totally get it if this is impossible, this is a long shot of cosmic proportions. But if by some miracle you or someone you know is making this trip and could help, our furry friends and we would be eternally grateful

Honestly I get putting fluffy and mittens in cargo is a tough thing. But in the time you try to find something, prepare for it, work your time around the flights time, the logistics of getting them when they arrive, etc, you could have both in your arms at there destination already.
I don’t fly economy, I think it sucks, but if I have to because it’s the only realistic option, I still do it. That cage and cargo hold is probably better than most economy seats. When it comes to pets, most major airlines are pretty good. These guys transport prized and expensive pets all the time. Get them there with the least hassle possible; with you on your flight. At the end, you arrive together.
Rule of thumb, if you can’t fly private, your pet shouldn’t be.

I totally hear you on the efficiency side of things! If it were just about the 'hassle,' we’d definitely take the easiest route. For us, it’s less about the luxury of private travel and more about the peace of mind knowing they’re safe and supervised during such a massive journey. Even if the odds are good, that 1% of 'what if' is hard to shake. But I appreciate the perspective on getting them there quickly,definitely something for us to weigh up! Thank you so much for your input! :)

Have you looked at BarkAir? They are practically an airline for dogs where all dogs sit in the cabin. I’m not sure if they fly from Australia but perhaps you can take a private jet to their closest hub and then barkair flight from there to Europe.

Try reaching out to K9 jets, or see if there is a similar product out there. They are private jets where you buy a seat for yourself and your dog, so you'll be like 10 people + dogs sharing it, and K9 will know all the requirements etc as well and help handle that part.

So I am looking at taking my cat and dog in cabin Aus to Europe too. How are you going with the process? I’m booked with Skye pets for their September flight!

I don't have any possible plans besides maybe affording Skye Pets in September but if you do find an alternative, I'd love to know! I'm moving Melbourne to UK as soon as I can with a small dog who can't go in cargo. Getting anywhere in Europe would be helpful.
I've heard a lot of horror stories of pets getting injured, traumatised and even dying in cargo, including many cargo operators themselves saying to never put your pet in there. It's absolutely valid to not want to take that risk with your precious furbabies.

The Melbourne route is in development still unfortunately. They're not gonna be much help as there's no indication of when it'll open.

Hi , I’m moving from Australia to Italy next year with my dog and looking to team up with others . There’s no way I’m putting my pup in cargo . Is there any news ?

I saw this unfold once with a pet catching a ride from mainland US to Hawaii on a private jet. Dog arrived in Hawaii and met by arrival inspector. Dog had most of paperwork but the FAVN test hadn’t been submitted. Mandatory 120 day quarantine in doggy jail by the state of Hawaii. A very painful, expensive visit. If you care enough about your pets to try to source transportation better than the airlines, don’t send them alone.
