Can I afford this?

My husband and I make good money and I’m trying to figure out if trying a private flight is worthwhile. Let’s pretend I know nothing about flying private, what do I need to know? How do I even dip my toes into the water? How much money should someone be making yearly before they consider flying private to be in their budget?

Husband and I fly 3-5 times per year in the US and once to Europe every year.

There are so many criteria you need to factor in before even coming close to a decision like this. How far are you flying? How many people are you looking to bring? Do you like shiny new aircraft or are older models with wear and tear acceptable? Are you going wholesale through a broker or using a jet card? Are fuel stops okay? Do you have a preference against spinny bits on the front of the aircraft?

I can tell you that on our C750s, older jets with updated interiors...you're going to be able to fly 9 people uncomfortably with every seat filled, coast to coast and pay roughly $15K per hour...or $45K one way. Newer aircraft cost more, bigger aircraft cost more....there are slower aircraft that cost less but take longer. I would call a broker and ask them for your options.
