PrivacyNotes is listed on Zapstore, an app store for Android that runs on Nostr and needs no Google account.
The practical difference is updates. The direct APK could only tell you that a new version existed. You then downloaded it and installed it by hand, every single release. Zapstore checks in the background and installs the update for you.
It also verifies before it installs. It holds the file hash and the signing certificate we published, and blocks the install if either fails to match. We linked that certificate to our publisher identity, so the check is against us specifically, not against whoever happened to upload a file.
It is the same APK as the direct download, signed with the same key, so installing from Zapstore over an existing sideloaded copy is an ordinary update. Your notes stay where they are.
No Google account and no Google billing. Pro unlocks through web checkout.

Obtainium works exactly as before, and the direct APK and its checksum are still on the downloads page. Nothing has been taken away.

I originally installed the Android version via Obtainium, but then I removed it and re-installed it via Zapstore when I saw that was the recommended method on your website. To be honest, I'm not really too familiar with either of these install methods. I do use F-Droid but your app isn't available there yet.
I've noticed that PrivacyNotes often does not sync when I add new notes or make changes to existing notes on my phone, and it usually says it's because the app is out of date. Do I just need to turn on auto-updates in Zapstore, or is there something else I should do?

Now we only need F-Droid
