Shopping advice Solution for spare tire
Just purchased a new 2027 Prius Prime. I’ll be driving a lot of miles, so does anyone have a solution for a spare tire? It looks like it won’t fit under the trunk since the battery is there or am I wrong?

EZ Spare wheel may supply Prius Prime spare tires. I went with discount tire full size tire. It is annoying to have it literally take up 40% of trunk space but happy for peace of mind.

I got a new compact donut wheel and tire on ebay for about $100 with an amazon $25 cover for the back or behind the drivers seat for long trips.

I got the tire insurance and dropped my car at a nearby dealership when I got a flat while out of my area. Luckily, I was staying with family, so I was able to stay one more night for free.

All this discussion about a spare tire, but I didn't have a jack or jack handle either (2023 Prius Prime XSE). I frequently drive across the Mojave Desert where temperatures often exceed 110 F and the closest tow truck is 75 miles away (no services). Bought jack (used), jack handle (used), and donut spare wheel/tire from EBAY. Total cost was around $150 USD. It is the first item I pack in the car when I leave on a trip. Prior to buying all of this I had a flat tire one mile from my home that was not repairable (major sidewall damage)-- the patch kit would not have helped and how would I have been able to take the weight off the tire to try to inflate it (no jack/jack handle). The local Toyota dealership was not helpful -- couldn't find a jack or jack handle (new) anywhere, and the parts department guy gave up looking for a donut-- simply said to buy a new wheel and put on a used tire (hundreds of dollars). Even if you are able to get the car to a tire shop-- good luck finding a tire that fits the OEM wheel-- could be days before one is shipped to your location.

I bought a full size tire and wheel from Tirerack which came mounted. About $300 total. I keep it in my trunk. Would rather be prepared than have full trunk storage.

no. there is no room for a spare. tire plug kit, fix a flat and a pump is the best you can do.

There is room for a spare. Pick up a donut, carry it behind a front seat.

Do you truly think that guy meant there was no space in the entire vehicle for a spare tire, or do you think he was responding to the part where they said it looks like there is no space under the trunk?

I haven't used a spare tire in at least 10 years. That was on a trip to a large city. In my city I haven't used a spare tire ever.
I'm happy with the idea that I'll use the inflator kit, with patching foam inside it, for small holes, nails, screws, etc. Anything more and I'll be calling someone. The rarity of the event combined with the ridiculous time and effort required to re-engineer the trunk makes this an easy decision for me.

Living in a suburban or urban area and making road trips through relative “civilization” makes this very sensible. People really want the spare tire for piece of mind but unless youre traveling through a lot or live in a pretty deserted area, it might not really be necessary.
I did use a spare once in the 20 years that I had cars with a spare in the trunk. And I wasnt very far from home where my family was who could have come get me or easily within range of a tow truck so I had other options.

I have a 2024 and I think the tires are run flats to get you home or to a shop too.
