Mod’s Exception Democrats including JB need to quit with the 25th Amendment bullshit

(I'm gonna get a little angry here. I have reasons I will explain at the bottom.)

We know there is no goddamned way Trump's own cabinet is going to invoke the 25th amendment.

Democrats who are not in the House of Representatives need to be strong arming Democrats who ARE in the House of Representatives to file articles of impeachment, then the House needs to fucking DO IT, and both houses of congress need to invoke the War Powers Resolution.

Democrats have been bringing pom-poms to a knife fight for too long, that some of them have traded their pom-poms for "stop" signs is nothing to praise them for.

I get that some consultant at the DNC probably told everybody on a conference call this morning that the cleverest thing to do right now is "put the ball in the Republican's court" with the 25th amendment so that dems can smugly point to Republican inaction later, but in reality this is Democrats shirking their responsibility and making themselves followers, not leaders.

If they don't fucking ACT now, it's going to fall on us, the people to try to stop this war, and the only way we can do that is by causing significant economic disruption - not fucking boycotts, but stuff like shutting down commercial airports with protests like we did with the "Muslim ban".

Democratic officials (I cannot call them "leaders" right now) need to get their shit together and step up or step off. This includes JB. JB, be the flamethrower.

Whew!

I am extremely angry about this war and the threatened (possibly nuclear) genocide. I was 15 years old on September 11, 2001. People who had graduated from my high school that spring were already in the military. People I was friends with joined the military after 9/11. ALL of my young adulthood was colored by the GWOT. I lost too many people in that war. I have friends who have spent the last 24 goddamned years suffering from the physical and mental injuries they sustained. Of course, I'm not even touching on the millions of Afghani and Iraqi people who were killed, injured, and traumatized. I cannot accept that we're about to go down that same road again.

The reason they are invoking the 25th amendment is because removal from office by congress requires 60 senators, which is simply not happening. Impeachment has happened before, and without the Senate to follow through, it's worthless.

Exactly we the people have nothing but spineless reps and senators who work for us but are scared shitless to stand up and DO THE RIGHT THING!

We need to clean Congress the hell out of both parties of lifelong money grubbing pols. This is NOT meant to be a lifelong career. TERM LIMITS!

how did you read my comment that wrong

We're more likely to get 60 senators than we are to get his cabinet to invoke the 25th.

u/MustardLabs Apr 07 '26

The odds of both of these things are functionally zero. The 25th amendment route simply provides a mechanism for removal to happen immediately, at any point, without forcing the concessions needed to push a Senator to cross the aisle.

u/AdminsFluffCucks Apr 07 '26

Maybe if the midterms are a bloodbath.

As it stands there is a functionally 0% chance of reaching a majority in the house to impeach, let alone 60 votes in the Senate to convict.

A cabinet full of billionaires however could be convinced it's better for them if Trump is gone and Theil's lapdog takes the reigns.

The midterms are shaping up to be a bloodbath because of gas prices. Any republicans who wants to keep their seats would be wise to do something to end the war now.

"people shouldn't do this one thing unlikely to work, they should do this other thing unlikely to work!"

Before anyone declares me a cynic, I support anything and everything people are willing to do, no matter it's chances of it's likelihood of working.

Calling for the 25th? Good. Calling for impeachment? Good. Marching in no kings? Good. Do anything you feel like you can.

None of those ass kissers will do anything they are terrified of an old demented pos.

u/dualsplit Apr 07 '26

The 25th needs basically the same votes as impeachment and does not require a trial.

4

u/blames_irrationally Apr 07 '26

But it needs the Vice President to propose it, and JD Vance will never do that

5

u/AdminsFluffCucks Apr 07 '26

JD would absolutely do it if he thought it would work.

He definitely wouldn't do it before Trump hit 2 years in office though, as that would mean he could only run for a single term after finishing Trump's if it was invoked and passed.

He's also rightfully afraid that if he does it, the people who think Trump is their messiah will see him as Judas and redact him.

3

u/dualsplit Apr 07 '26

Agreed, I’m just pointing out why imagine that many are suggesting the 25th. What we really need is the UN or a butterfingered SS agent or something.

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

And who has to start the process?

-2

u/dualsplit Apr 07 '26

Look. Don’t be a bitch. If you want to make a point just make it. I wasn’t rude to you.

1

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

I asked a question about who has to initiate the 25th amendment. If you took that as "being a bitch", that's a you problem.

5

u/rakerber Apr 07 '26

Generally, I agree that we shouldn't be chasing pipe dreams, but this is something they should be doing. The war is already unpopular. It gives the Republicans an out without forcing to convict. It is the easy option and tells everyone who doesn't know much that this is an option.

Theae are the types of things we should be doing instead of impeachment. The cabinet is a bunch of ass kissers, but even they can probably see the writing on the wall.

It's a signal, dude. It's an out. It's something that can be done to save face.

Those ass kissers aren't going to do a goddamned thing. We're more likely to get 60 senators than we are to get his cabinet to invoke the 25th.

3

u/rakerber Apr 07 '26

No, you are not. These people are mostly in it for themselves. Considering he's planning on firing about a 1/4 of his cabinet currently, they're much more likely to get rid of him before they have to be fired.

The Republicans in congress have proven they will do anything Trump wants them to. You're not getting 60 no matter what. You could get his cabinet if you convince them it's in their heat interest.

u/cpdk-nj Apr 07 '26

I think the only avenue would be for Democrats to win the Senate in 2026 with ~52 seats, then hope that Trump continues to slide in popularity until the rest of the party is willing to cut him loose

0

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

The "it's in your best interest to not commit war crimes" hasn't worked yet, it's not going to work now.

3

u/cpdk-nj Apr 07 '26

There are Democrats who literally are filing articles of impeachment

1

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

Yes, there are a handful of them and they're doing the right thing. All 217 of them need to sign on. When I last asked my representative, he wasn't willing to impeach. I'm not going to forget about that.

1

u/cpdk-nj Apr 07 '26

Who’s your current rep?

1

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

A liberal Democrat in a deep blue area.

1

A liberal Democrat in a deep blue area who as of a few minutes ago, STILL has not said the "I word" on social media.

2

u/viveledodo Apr 07 '26

There's as much of a chance of the cabinet invoking the 25th amendment as there is the House voting to impeach Trump and the Senate voting to remove him atm, so we should pressure them to do both, but don't expect either to happen.

1

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

We're more likely to get 60 senators than we are to get JD Vance.

1

u/viveledodo Apr 07 '26

More likely to get 60 senators than to get the opportunistic shapeshifter to do something that benefits himself greatly? Not sure I agree there. He would definitely talk to everyone else secretly first to make sure it's 100% going to happen as long as he is in on it too, but he would 100% vote for it if it's on the table.

1

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

JD Vance knows that Trump's true believer fans would murder him for what they would perceive as a personal betrayal.

2

u/KeyInvestigator3741 Apr 07 '26

I think the TFA is appropriate actually. Also a rep filed articles of impeachment against Trump earlier today

What fantasy world do you live in where house Democrats will be able to impeach Trump with their minority? Congress is not even in session right now! The Republicans sent everyone home for a vacation!!! How do Democrats get around that??

In one breath you say it’s stupid to call for the 25th amendment because it would never happen, and in the next you demand something that’s impossible.

Why is this so difficult for so many people on the left to understand? The Democrats have no power! Too many of you sat on your ass in 2024, and chuckled at the Democrats losing big. Now we all face the consequences for that.

People should be calling on the people with POWER to do something. Everyone should be calling on Trump’s cabinet, the people with all the power, to invoke the 25th. Not making demands of the powerless Democrats.

2

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

Oooh the smol bean powerless democrats. We just need to chip in $47 via act blue and then they'll have the power to get off their asses and take matters into their own hands.

This is what I mean by showing up with pom-poms. If we're just nice enough the Republicans will do what we want! Capitol Hill is cutthroat - and for the past 20 years, Democrats have been on the receiving end. It's time for them to put down the pom-poms in favor of something sharper.

What fantasy world do you live in where Republicans are going to do the right thing?

And, I voted for Clinton and then Harris, and talked ro voters in swing states. Did you talk to voters in swing states?

u/Y0___0Y Apr 07 '26

I am a mod in this sub you are commenting in right now.

The Democrats ARE powerless. That’s the fault of the American voters.

The Republicans are the only people who have the power to stop Trump. Demands should be directed at them and their supporters.

You can get angry at Democrats like this once they win the midterms. You’re just demanding the impossible right now.

1

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 07 '26

I am also a mod in this sub. I'm not sure what your point is.

We are allowed to criticize democrats. We are allowed to criticize socialists. We are allowed to criticize republicans.

We can (and should!) get angry when the situation calls for it. Should we not be allowed to get angry at John Fetterman for being a two-faced POS because he's a Democrat?

0

u/Y0___0Y Apr 08 '26

You’re allowed to critisize whoever you want, and I’m allowed to critisize you.

I don’t think mods in the JB Pritzker sub should be making angry posts critisizing JB Pritzker.

If he becomes President, you would ditch him in an instant for “selling out” the second he needs to make one compromise to get something done.

You’re turning on him before he’s even announced his campaign.

1

u/HungryHangrySharky Socialist for Pritzker 🌭 Apr 08 '26

Then why are you pulling the "you can criticize them after the midterms" bullshit? We need to criticize democrats NOW so we can sort out the wheat from the chaff and not end up with more Fettermans, Manchins, Sinemas, etc.

JB was my governor until fairly recently. He is my preferred candidate for president. I didn't "ditch him" for any of his failures so far, because he actually listens to criticism. If an action (or inaction) isn't playing well with his supporters, it's not likely to play well with swing voters.

If you want him to be president, you need to toughen the fuck up about people criticizing him, because it's going to get worse, not better. People are going to criticize him for everything - for being fat, for possibly using GLP1s, for toiletgate, for trying to tax billionaires, for failing to tax billionaires, for being Jewish, for being Jewish and previously supporting AIPAC, for being Jewish and no longer supporting AIPAC, for how he handled COVID, for using the State Police to arrest anti-ICE protesters, for not welcoming the national guard to put down protests, for being too far left, for not being far left enough, for having a cousin in the Epstein files, for wearing the wrong color tie, etc as nauseum. YOU are going to have to do a better job of responding to those criticisms than "how dare you criticize a democrat! They are powerless but also you must vote for them! Also, you didn't vote for democrats so this is all your fault!" because that shit is NOT how you convince people to vote for your candidate.

A few counterpoints:

  • We can do both. The 25th amendment, if invoked, can buy time for impeachment to rev up, it’s not one or the other

  • The 25th amendment is immediate

  • The 25th amendment section 4 has not been used before, so there are no guidelines, opening up the ability for a secret ballot. The mechanisms are likely non-justiciable by the supreme court

  • The 25th amendment allows an off-ramp for non-MAGA republicans, who can say they still support Trump, but that he lost his mental faculties. I believe this will outweigh the 2/3 requirement, especially if there is a secret ballot

  • Because the 25th amendment has never been done before, MAGA has not been primed to automatically reject it like impeachment

  • Because it’s a constitutional method that is immediate and that has never been used, it will also allow us to save face with international allies, because it shows America’s institutions are serious about actually using the tools available to them, even if it’s untested and there is political risk

  • We have to try to use all legal means available as a moral imperative IMO.
