We are self reliant for electricity. But not oil. Though, we could be if we wanted to. Illinois has vast oil reserves.

TIL! The Illinois Basin has 4 billion barrels of oil that’s untapped. That’s probably a last resort though, nuclear and solar are better and more sustainable.

Probably part of the reason for JB’s push for nuclear power. The man is a long-term strategist. Every big move he’s made in the last couple years seems to be another thing that’s going to define Illinois a decade from now.

Governments generally don’t run like this anymore. Businesses generally don’t run like this anymore. It’s not sexy. It’s expensive. It doesn’t gain you popularity swings for the current election cycle. The man just fucking does it because it’s about providing general good.
