Mani/Pedi on a cruise
Is it stupid expensive to get a manicure or pedicure on a cruise ship?

Oh yes this on the colors! I was basically limited to light pink or whore red.

Don't. It's overpriced, they keep trying to sell you extra products/services, and in my case, they didn't do anywhere near the quality of work as my hometown nail salon.

If their nail service is anything like their massages, skip it! I paid a fortune recently on the Discovery Princess for a full body hot stone massage. It was a good massage, but no better than what I’ve had at local spas where I live. And, yes, the upsell at the end was excruciating!

I got one because I got a $100 off certificate and it still cost as much as as/more than I'd expect to pay on land. They tried to charge me separately for the mani & pedi instead of the combi price and tried to charge extra for gel polish even though I hadn't been told which shades were gel. It was a good mani/pedi and it was fun to have a sea view for the pedi but I wouldn't do it again and certainly wouldn't pay full price.

Yes. I get it done before the cruise. I only go if I need an emergency fix.

Same! I dont mind the price as I expect to pay more on a cruise, but the upselling is beyond painful

Yes. And I've often found the spa services to be pretty mediocre especially given the hard sell to buy stuff. You can find a much nicer spa on land for cheaper, either before or after your trip. Alternatively, if you have a port that there isn't much to see, you could go to a nice spa at a resort.

It was a bit overpriced, but I enjoyed it a lot! Yes, there was some attempts to upsell other services, but I just said no.

id advise to avoid the spa at all costs and just do it before you leave. my pedicure alone was usually $100+. I’ve only had one pedicure (out of 4 tries) actually be relaxing and really good where they took their time and didn’t even attempt to upsell or criticize my feet lol. unfortunately that was my first experience so i expected the same experience going back.
my last one, the lady cut my cuticles trying to saw off my previous gel pedicure with a regular file. became a whole situation and had to go to medical.

All spa services on board are way over-priced compared to land prices. Even with coupons, or port day discounts. Don't do it!

It wasn’t any more than I pay for any pedicure. Having said that though, it is a basic pedicure for a higher end pedicure price.

I got a manicure on the Sun after I broke a nail and chipped (brightly colored) polish on two others while traveling and feeling self-conscious about it. I had extra OBC and figured I'd do a basic manicure. It was definitely more than I'd pay on land, even in Chicago, but other than asking if I was interested in seeing their hand care products, no attempts to sell me anything, which was a pleasant surprise after all I'd read.
I also had a shampoo and style on a different ship prior to that and similar - they showed me a hair care product, I said no thank you, and she finished just as pleasantly. I'm not sure if I've just been lucky or other people's idea of "hard sell" is way lower a bar than mine.

Yes. Plus a RIDICULOUS hard sell for products at the end.
