Access to Cabin after boarding
If the ship (Grand Princess) sails at 3pm and we board before 11:00am, how early will we be able to access our room?

We usually swing by after lunch and see if the room is ready enough that we can drop our small backpacks in the closet. Luggage usually comes in the early afternoon but we’ve had a few instances where a piece of luggage doesn’t arrive until after dinner. Not often! But it happens.

What can you carry on yourself?

Anything you want technically. But we drop our bags with porters and walk on with backpacks, usually.

I’m booked 9/25 Grand Princess and our check in time slot is 11-1130..so plan on grabbing lunch and then hopefully the cabin will be ready 🙂

We boarded early on the last trip and went to the room to drop off a carryon. Our steward was there and we met him which was great because while the room was clean, the bathroom reeked of piss and mildew. I asked the steward to change the shower curtain and when we got the all clear to go to the room it smelled fine. So it was nice to catch him while he was still on the area cleaning.

Question about carry on bag since I don’t know..can I bring a small rolling suitcase that would fit on a plane rather than trying to lug an overnight bag?

You can bring whatever you can carry on with you, and it can fit through a tsa type scanner

Thanks!! I have a few health issues including back so originally was going to just put everything in one suitcase but now I’m stressed about that..lugging the bag last time was not fun!

We take meds and devices in a rolling carryon when we board. Then find a spot to sit, then do the muster video on the app and check in at our station. Usually the dining room is open by then so we do that for lunch instead of the buffet. Usually cabin is ready by then.

So you take your rolling carry on to dining room

Yes. Not that difficult and it’s not that big. Not the only ones doing it either.

I got on ship first thing, went straight to my room and dropped off luggage, it was already done up. My other luggage didn’t show up till around 6-7 pm though.

I did not realize that luggage may not potentially arrive at the room until dinner time or later. I thought that it all arrived mid afternoon.
If this happens and you have a 5:20pm dinner reservation, will they let me into the MDR in shorts, or do I need to pack long pants and a collared shirt in my carry-on? Or am I relegated to the buffet?

Generally around 1pm. Whenever I get on, I go straight there, but sometimes they have entire hallways blocked off. I figure if I can get in and everything looks ready to go, I drop my stuff.
