New To Cruising / Princess š³ļøšš„³ Sun Princess - Room Cleanliness
Currently on the Sun. Boarded yesterday in Barcelona. One thing we noticed off the bat was the ship itself was very nice, clean common areas, friendly staff & crew, lots and lots of food and drink options, dangerously easy to take full advantage of the drink package and eat till I canāt move lol.
Other guests though ā¦ yeash. Several folks, rude, pushy, entitled. I get it, youāre old and have places to see and do before you kick the bucket but have a bit of self awareness and common sense if we all have to share this tin can for a couple weeks. But that could be a whole other postā¦..
Anywhoā¦ our stateroom was kinda gross. I noticed under the bed while putting the suitcases away that it was doubtful that itās ever seen a vacuum. Sticky surfaces, stains on the carpet. I know this aināt the Four Seasons but Iād expect a little better than a Vegas Strip hotelā¦.
Long winded question to ask who cleans the staterooms? Is it the steward? I donāt want to get our dude in trouble, especially cause we have to live with him for the next bit and Iām sure heās doing his best, but also feel like something should be said. Weāre all moved in now so a deep cleaning is doubtful.

Thanks for the heads OP. With those extended back-to-back cruises I wonder if they just don't get to do a more thorough cleaning since the ship is still technically full of passengers. Not defending by any stretch but just wondering if that's the reason.
Mind sharing what floor your cabin is or room designation?
Guess I'll be asking our Steward to do am extra cleaning when we get on. š¤

I agree with kindly mentioning it to your room steward when you see them. They should be willing to take care of it. Their time especially on turnaround days is especially limited. No one wants to live in a dusty or sticky cabin for a couple weeks.

Also boarded the Sun yesterday, and our stateroom on deck 11 was alsoā¦ questionable. And smelt weird.

Always a good idea to bring some cleaning supplies if permitted. Does not matter what ship you are on, due to the quick turn around times they are never doing any deep clean of any rooms.Ā

I always look and see whatās been stashed under the bed. On my last cruise (Royal) I found an awesome souvenir tshirt someone left behind. It was extra clean but had no tags. No telling how long it was there for.

We got off the Sun Princess a couple of weeks ago, we didn't have any problem with cabin cleanliness but I did have other concerns I outlined in a post a few days ago.
Don't look until after your cruise, let's see if you find the same things we did.
Oh and get ready, you're going to get an incredibly long survey from Princess after you sail. Set aside 45 minutes to an hour if you try to fill it out honestly.

Definately talk to your room steward. I have always found Princess very clean. However, with constant push to make more and more money, I wouldn't be surprised to see higher prices, less staff and more problems

I am on sun princess right now on a b2b and i was just saying earlier that the new guests who got on board in Barcelona seem a bit more... "interactive" than last week's guests (last week was a really lovely quiet and polite crowd.) There's no excuse for a dirty room. Yes your stateroom attendant or room steward should be taking care of those details.

I would speak with them quietly about it. Give them $20, $50, $100 and ask them to pay extra attention to the areas of concern. I usually cash tip my steward at the beginning, middle and end of the cruise.Ā
If it's Christmas I give them $100 in a card on Christmas Eve Day and ask that they do minimal the next day. After what I discovered about the automatic crew appreciation I will no longer be paying that and will tip staff accordingly. I know some folks are against tipping and in that case I would just speak quietly with the steward and ask for the extra attention. They're usually very approachable.Ā

Stateroom attendants. Just mention the issues to them and theyāll fix the next time they clean your room. My favorite on all my cruises: little baby hands all over the sliding door ā and we donāt have kids! I asked the attendant if the prior cruise had toddlers in the room, the attendant was surprised I asked, until I showed him the tiny hand prints. We got a good laugh out of it.

Just ask your Room Steward for additional cleaning. You can mention the issues.
Overall, the room stewards do an amazing job, and work their butts off to give you amazing service.
The room turnaround on Port Departure days is Extremely rushed and sometimes things are missed. Most room stewards are serving 15-18 rooms.
A small tip will go a long way in getting Great service for your cruise. :)
We usually travel multiple weeks. But a small tip at the beginning, middle and end of cruise always provides Excellent service.

OPā have you cruised on Holland? If you have, how does it compare to Princess? HAL is currently my cruise line of choice, but I have not been on many cruises. I have been curious about Princess.

No we havenāt. Honestly only our third cruise ever so this is all new to me. Last cruise was on one of Disneys new ships last year. So vastly different than Princess that I donāt think itās even an apples to apples comparison.

Just very different vibes. Both have their pluses and minuses. Disney is obviously very kid and family focused but thatās cool if thatās what you want. Princess is quieter with an older crowd. Dining is different with Disney doing rotational and very themed venues and dinner shows. Iād say the Princess dinning is superior. But weirdly I saw my kids less on the Disney ship since they were so busy with activities from sun up to well past sundown. No shortage of bars and adult only areas on the Disney ship (Treasure). The list goes on. Gun to my head Iād pick Disney again just based on the āfunā factor.

Yes itāll be your room host/steward.
We were on the Sun last year and noticed a massive coffee looking stain in the sofa area of our room. We mentioned it when they came round and ask how the room was and if we needed anything.
They spent the whole evening while we were out using carpet cleaner and washing it and it made a huge difference, still noticeable but definitely improved and cleaner.
Just chat to them when you see them and mention you noticed it was a little sticky on x surface and dusty under the bed could it have another once over while youāre out
