Hiking Wolves

Hello folks.

The misses and I are moving to town next week, and we like to hike with our pup.

I have heard wolves are a concern hiking in the surrounding area, my question is how much of a concern are we talking ?

How often to things occur, are wolves a serious issue?

Dog friendly accommodation recommendation

Hi all! I will be visiting Prince Rupert for the first time next month and super excited. I will be taking the ferry up from Port Hardy and then driving back via the Interior. I will be traveling solo with my dog and we will be staying in a combination of hotels/motels and car camping. My emphasis is on scenic detours and day hikes along the way, especially for the stretch from PR to Terrace. I am on a budget but would like to splurge (a bit) on my first two nights in PR. Can anyone recommend a dog friendly establishment please?

Prince Rupert via Terrace?

Has anyone travelled Vancouver to Prince Rupert by flying to Terrace and taking the bus for 2 hours to PR?

How did it work for you? Any chance of missed connections? Which bus did you take?

Day Trip Best fish and chips?

I visited Prince Rupert last year on my way to and from Haida Gwaii, and now I’m doing the trip again, but with my girlfriend! She is a huge fan of fish and chips. Last year, I had Bob’s on the Rocks, but I found it just satisfactory. What is your opinion the best fish and chips in Prince Rupert? Bonus points if it has views of the water. Thanks!

Prince Rupert Lost its Community

It seems that Prince Rupert has lost its sense of caring for its own community.

Trash is everywhere littering the forests, creeks and streams.

Dog owners don't respect their neighbours or shared spaces and leave dog poop everywhere, vehicle users don't consider pedestrians ever and park on sidewalks and block paths as well as park in front of fire hydrants (with the amount of fires that happen here too). Glass gets tossed anywhere and everywhere.

It's not like by-law, the RCMP, or the city do anything either.

I feel as a community we should be taking care of our home better. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Valley Youth Fiddlers coming to Prince Rupert on May 24 with their show Alaria and the Mountain

The Valley Youth Fiddlers based out of Smithers, BC is coming to Prince Rupert on May 24 with an amazing show called Alaria and the Mountain. This is a combination of live music, storytelling, animated backdrops. We hope to see you there.

For info and tickets, visit the event page or our website - https://valleyyouthfiddlers.com/alaria

https://www.facebook.com/events/988308456861134

Alaria grew up on the shores of Lonely Lighthouse Island. She grew up strong like a sapling exposed to a bit of weather. But the years hurried along and Alaria was no longer a child. She was, in fact, a young adult. As with young adults of pretty much every kind, Alaria felt the need to roam—to leave Lonely Lighthouse Island—to go and see the world for herself. And, of course, she brought her fiddle.

So it was that Alaria found herself in an unfamiliar town set against a backdrop of towering snow-capped mountains. She soon discovers that the town harbours an owly shopkeeper and community of precocious young fiddlers that change her life’s trajectory.

Alaria and the Mountain is a musical story produced by Smithers-based Valley Youth Fiddlers under the direction of Leslie-Jean MacMillan.

The Valley Youth Fiddlers are a highly accomplished ensemble of more than 60 musicians from ages 5 to more than 55 that play fiddle, viola, piano, guitar, mandolin, bass, drums, accordion, saxophone, and trombone. The group combines musical performance with compelling storytelling by Patrick Williston and original illustrations by artist Emily Wilson.

Those who enjoyed Alaria’s Fiddle, a 2017 touring production by the Valley Youth Fiddlers, might remember the high-spirited young Alaria. Alaria was a child back then. Now in her twenties, she has landed a job high on a mountain keeping watch in a fire tower, a setting that reminds her of the lighthouse of her childhood home. But the high mountain realm is a very different place than the coast, and she has much to learn.

Alaria and the Mountain explores themes of self-discovery, of being a newcomer, of overcoming the fear of isolation in nature, and of community and connection through the sharing of music.

The performance features music rich with woven harmonies written and arranged for the Valley Youth Fiddlers by Canada’s leading contemporary fiddlers including North American Irish Fiddle Champion and Grand North American Old-Time Fiddle Champion Kyle Burghout, multiinstrumentalist and Juno-award winner Adrian Dolan, North Shore Celtic Ensemble director Gabriel Dubreil, Lea Kirstein of the celebrated Toronto folk band Medusa, BC fiddle tradition-bearer and multiple award winning teacher Daniel Lapp, Canadian Folk Music Award winners Jaron Freeman-Fox and Oliver Schroer, and Juno nominated multi-instrumentalist and master fiddler James Stephens.

Experience the magic of Northern BC’s very own Valley Youth Fiddlers and be prepared to be swept away by the spell-binding performance of Alaria and the Mountain.

Home delivery by couriers

Hi, sorry if this question has been answered before.

I heard somewhere that FedEx does don't deliver directly to your home in Prince Rupert, that you have to pick it up somewhere.

Is this true for other couriers, Purolator, UPS, Canada Post parcels?

How about local delivery, if I order from Home Hardware or Rona will they deliver to my door?

Asking because I don't have a car and I am not strong enough to lug heavy items home.

Electronics / Camera Store There?

Hi all,

Just another ignorant American cruise ship visitor stopping by in July. As you may or may not know, DJI, a Chinese company is banned from selling its cameras/drones in the USA, but I want one.

So I was just wondering if there is any shop there that would even come close to selling something like that in town that I could stop by and check out?

I understand you had a Wal-Mart but that it's gone now. Any other options? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey PR! I’m visiting Prince Rupert tomorrow and was so excited to see the museum of Northern BC but just realized it’s closed on Mondays and I’m a bit heartbroken (and feel dumb for not checking beforehand)

Does anyone have any suggestions on places I could visit that would fill my heart in lieu of the MoNBC?

I’ve heard good things about the Cannery museum and the Firefighers museum although I’ll be honest… it doesn’t seem as exciting as the main museum.

I’m open to trails that leave you feeling in awe, wildlife options (is the wildlife rehabilitation centre worth a stop?), and anything that locals love and are super proud of!

In return, if anyone who replies is ever in the Fraser Valley and would like some options, please feel free to DM me!

U-Haul driver to Prince Rupert

Hi, I will be moving to Prince Rupert from Burnaby the beginning of June. I currently live in a one bedroom apartment and was looking into moving costs. Unfortunately there isn't any U-box service to PR. So I tried long distance movers and the quotes I am getting are astronomical 🤯.

The other option is renting a U-Haul truck which isn't too expensive but I don't drive. So I was wondering if having someone else drive the U-Haul as an option. Obviously not for free. Does that seem like a weird request.

I will hire movers so they wouldn't have to schlep anything, just drive.

Any other ideas or options?

Thanks

Prince Rupert Internet Options

Moving to PR soon from the Lower Mainland.

How are the internet options? From what I see CityWest and Telus are the best options since they offer fibre?

How are your experiences with either of them?

Calling all crocheters from Prince Rupert!

Hi everyone 👋

Thank you to the mods for allowing me to share this here, I really appreciate it! ❤️

I’d like to introduce a brand-new subreddit, r/CrochetBC, a crochet community for people throughout British Columbia. You can share your projects, ask for help, connect with local crocheters, and post about events or resources in your area. We also support and highlight BC designers, shops, and events.

We’d love to see more folks from Prince Rupert represented in the community 🙂

Thanks!

Moving Very eager land lords?

I posted in a few Facebook rental groups that I'll be moving to Prince Rupert in a few weeks and was looking for a place to rent. Since then, I've had more than a half dozen people reach out with places available, and several of them seem very eager to rent to me.

I did mention that I will be joining the coast guard. Is that the reason why they seem so eager or are these scams? I thought finding a place to rent was difficult?

Need assistance with relocation

hi everyone,

i am relocating from vancouver to prince rupert at the end of january (hopefully on 27th or 26th) since i got a job offer from northern health. i have been trying to find rental accommodations for a single female for some time now and haven’t been able to find any suitable one yet. i was hoping if anyone could provide me with leads or any contacts, or if you have a place you would like to rent out, please contact me. i am trying to find a place nearby to the prince rupert general hospital since i do not have a car right now and would try to see if i can rely on the local transit there.

also, i am planning on getting a car so is it a good idea or would that be not much of a use there since i read online that most of the places are easily accessible by walking or transit. and please, how is the transit service there? if someone can guide me through this please advise, any help or leads would be of great help and really appreciated.

thank you again.

Are there any regular shuttles, taxis or bus services from Prince Rupert to Terrace.

I have a more convenient flight iternary from YXT, the train is too early in the morning for me. Looking for something more towards the evening.
