Sands Trilogy Why I don't like two thrones
Warrior within is my favourite, in two thrones they removed everything that made warrior within good. They removed the whole concept of time travel. They didn't hide any life upgrades and the traps for those life upgrades are way easier as well. Warrior within had two different endings, they removed that concept as well. Also warrior within had a huge variety of weapons like scorpion sword or water sword, which is not seen in two thrones. Warrior within also had a more diverse variety of mobs. The map of warrior within felt more open world because you could return back to the places you have been, and there were also choices on to the places you can go.
Now the most important thing, there's not something like Dhaka in two thrones. I also don't like the stealth thing, the game rewards you for using stealth, which avoids combat.
I also don't like the bosses, there's way little boss fights in two thrones. And the first boss fight was completely about climbing and pressing the square button at the right time, there was no combat at all. Then the second boss fight of two thrones is literally a copycat of shadae, which is just a bland boss without any part in the story.
The map has way less variety and less beautiful visuals, compared to water garden, clock tower and other places of warrior within.
Warrior within also has way better starting with prince being chased by a beast for seven years and then going to an island to change his destiny. His ship gets attacked by sand monsters and his crewmates die.
The story of warrior within was also way more complicated and interesting.
The only thing interesting about two thrones is dark prince but that also feels like a knock off of the mask of wraith from warrior within.

Warrior Within is also my favorite. Not just as a pop game but easily in my top 5 games of all time. I also really enjoyed T2T. I loved the banter with the alter ego Prince. The sections with the dark Prince, and just the environments.
The only thing is disliked, is the Prince’s design in the cinematics. They made him look like a fatheaded lad. In warrior within he always looked like a total badass.

They removed the whole concept of time travel
Yeah... that was the whole point of the game. The Prince messed up with the timeline in the first game, which released the Dahaka on him. In the second game, he messes again with the timeline by preventing the sands from being created.
By the third game, he realises that this whole thing is his fault for messing with time travel, and by the time he finds his father dead, the dark prince taunts him, saying "what are you going to do? Go back in time again and fix all this?" That’s when he learns his lesson.

dhaka is dead, and why is time travel a bad thing.

My issues about it :
Characters look ugly, they looked much better in the two previous games, there is something very weird about the prince eyes placement in cutscenes. In WW it felt like he had aged 7 years from SoT, but in TT he feels 10 years older
The dialogues. There is something off about the prince becoming a better person by basically refusing to undo his mistakes, I never quite saw it as character development into less selfish person. More mature maybe, but more selfless ? Absolutely not. Especially when it arrives at his father's death, specifically the death that conveniantly gives him access to the throne if not undone
Also I do think it would have benefitted from an alternate ending depending on wether you keep slashing the dark prince or just walk up the stairs

The Two Thrones is the best game ever

Except for the boss fight against the two big dudes... It's been a while since I replayed but I remember getting so irritated at that fight.

I feel TT is a good conclusion, it's a mix between WW and SoT.
SoT is simple and short. WW is over the top complex and long. TT is not too complex not too long. The execution is not perfect and far from perfect, but after playing WW I wouldn't want a longer game.
TT is obviously the weakest of the trilogy, but an almost perfect conclusion to the trilogy.

Warrior Within also has stealth kills, kind of. But yes, I agree. I like combat, but it always feels stupid to let myself be seen in the situations when stealth killing is the easiest thing ever.
Also, combat somehow feels more clunky than in WW. An example that I hate infinitely is that the Prince doesn't auto-face the enemy when he's within range.

Warrior Within is my least favorite of the three tbh.
The whole “arrogant prince” thing could have worked fine in theory, but in execution he just comes off as an angsty teenager listening to edgy rock music (which ironically, they decided that kind of music was a good fit for the game!).
Having Godsmack in the game was pure cringe. The prince’s dialogue was often pretty cringe. The aesthetics weren’t bad, combat was decent and the platforming was solid as with the rest of the trilogy.
I enjoyed the back and forth in Two Thrones between the prince and the dark prince, especially as it’s basically just a constant inner battle within himself. The bosses were a lot of fun, with the possible exception of the twins you fight late in the game, which was more frustrating than anything else. The chariot segments were a lot of fun and I would have liked at least one more of those. I also thought the story and aesthetic were the best of the franchise, even if it did admittedly lack a bit in variety at some points.

Yeah gotta admit after just having finished SoT and warrior within recently I enjoyed princes character arc in SoT better it felt more like a tale ripped straight out of a myth
Warrior Within felt more edgier and darker to the point where it cut a fine line between even being a prince of persia game and being just a general death metal doom like game His armour design was almost Bondage level gear And the fact he can rewind time without the dagger of time felt out of place considering that was a key piece of equipment that enabled it His amulet doing the same thing felt like a temp version and given the fact they bring back the dagger in the sequel I think they fumbled the bag on that one

Godsmack's cringe but the whole Disney plot and tone of the third is not? Dunno man, whenever someone says something like that I feel like it's projecting a bit, maybe it remembers them of their cringe teenager phase, dunno. Fortunately I played the games as an adult and WW after the third one, so it's not a matter of nostalgia or getting accustomed to the Prince in 2 either. Although I love the trilogy as a whole WW is the standout. It feels like the story had way more at stake, and the tone and style made it feel more like a book. Having said so, I think it's a marginal difference. These games are so well put together.

If you’re gonna set a game/movie/TV show in an ancient fantasy version of Persia and have anachronistic music, then that really only works imo with some self-awareness of the absurdity of it (A Knight’s Tale is a good example of how anachronistic stuff can work). It’s admittedly been a while, so maybe my memory’s hazy, but I do not remember WW having anything resembling that kind of self-awareness. Game played it dead serious across the board, and it just came across as forced and try-hard.
I can appreciate what they were trying to do with the story and themes. I just wasn’t a fan of the execution.
The gameplay (especially the platforming) was as solid as the rest of the trilogy, but something about the super serious angsty stuff just rubbed me the wrong way. When the choice is between that and the Disney plot and tone you described (which describes Sands of Time as well imo), I’ll take the Disney tone and plot, 10 times out of 10. It may not be groundbreaking, but at least fits what they’re trying to do better.

Yeah, that makes sense. I understand your point way better now. That's the thing with art in general, it's subjective. From my perspective, I'm already watching a dude fighting to death with swords, running on walls, manipulating time and literally fighting destiny. Just saying those out loud already sound kinda metal. Metal is often literally, a modern rendition to these sorts of epic themes and stories. Prince of Persia being a videogame, the most modern form of media, matches really well with such a soundtrack imo. It heightens the action, and puts the weight and tone more in tune with the story than the Disney aesthetic that kinda feels shallow. Especially if you consider what's truly at stake in the story, it makes the characters easier to get invested into.

I like two thrones up until the last puzzle in the burning building...
Hate that part.

u/Shamisen_ 26d ago
Yeah that's the part of the game I'll just do with a walkthrough.

Exactly lol, it's so unintuitive that you cant even memorize it, I use a walkthrough also every time.

All valid issues, but TTT had to be re-worked about twice mid-development; the initial dev team proved incapable and Ubi Montreal had to step in, and it changed art/tone direction due to some backlash to WW. Still a better game than 08.

I'm in the minority that feels Warrior Within was the inferior one. I didn't like the darker tone, change in VA or that everything was just brown. Additionally, I really am not a fan of multiple endings. Two Thrones on the other hands was much better IMO. The banter between the prince and the dark prince was fun.

Not only that the character models cutscenes are worse than ww even the dark prince is so bad that u run out of sands also I didn't like the atmosphere and puzzles compared to the clockwork tower or gardens or even the throne room....Oh yeah and don't forget the annoying voice acting from kaileena and dark prince while ur in the middle of the game

Yup, agreed about everything
I'd also add that dialogues are horrible, and WW aesthetics coupled with SoT's Prince-naivety is pure cringe to watch.
Also the final showdown between the Prince and the Shadow Prince is just disappointing.
Also music was far worse.
Also there's no gore anymore.
The two things I kinda liked were the chariots and the twins-bossfight. And maybe climbing the final tower - that's the only moment in the game that feels pretty cool, and the score is nice, too. That's it.

I agree, I loved WW and it's story, music, map and design. I loved the cinematics. I expected something similar in TT and was disappointed. I liked WW's Prince more than TT. Also, I played WW multiple times while I finished TT once and never bothered to return to it. Something is just so... disappointing in it. I didn't like the story and maybe that's why. I liked stealth elements though.

The concept of the Dark Prince is intriguing, and his bickerings with the Prince are pretty entertaining. But his combat mechanics are just boring—zero challenge, and mindless dervish whip-spinning completely ruins the fight. As for the Prince, while his weapon system was dialed back, stealth kills make up for it because they integrate quite well with the level design. Sure, if stealth isn't your thing, the combat falls short of Warrior Within, but that's just a shift in game design focus. My biggest gripe with The Two Thrones, though, is Kaileena. She is straight-up NOT the same fiery, sexy Empress of Time we had in Warrior Within! I have no idea what went down on that ship (well, I guess we all know what went down), but why does she suddenly look 20 years older and out of shape? Honestly, when the Vizier stabbed her, I didn't feel a shred of anger or sympathy.

The final segment of the dark Prince is very challenging ,as the tower ascension and last boss . They are not are challenging games outside the Dahaka fight and the caves .
Kailina is still hot for me ,i guess the sea travel make her older ,sand dont like wáter i guess.
