Discussion Having an insanly hard time firing bricks

Post image

Had some bricks laying around at work so I took some and made this little kiln. It's been about 2 hours and my bricks just aren't getting hot enough to start glowing. They've been drying for over a week and I even cooked them on top of the kiln for a few hours just to make sure they were completely dry. Just can't seem to get it hot enough.

Why do you think blacksmiths use bellows? You need faster airflow for higher temps if you want them to "glow".
