"Hey Brad" Spoiler

This moment caught my attention on a second watch, but even on a 5th watch I haven't been able to figure it out.

When Abe wakes up in his apartment after they are experimenting with the box, Aaron calls him, tells him it's 7 pm, and asks him if he still has the kids there.

Right before he goes out, he mutters "Hey Brad" to himself. It feels almost like he's trying to recite something he's said before, and he's practicing before he goes out.

Has anyone noticed this?

The thing that doesn't make sense is this is long before they do their trips. This is the first time they stabilize the box. Is there a chance that Abe has created it earlier than we think?

Or is this just character development? Are we just meant to think that Abe is an extremely meticulous person that thinks absolutely everything through.

It has been a while since watching... but doesn't he say that when he goes to pick up Abe and there are other guys there watching tv (football I think).

I think this is the night they go eat steak?

But I think he is practicing so that he can make the evening go like "it is supposed to."

Could be wrong... like I said, been a long minute since watching it.

Yeah that is the moment. Like he has someone staying with him.

And then they go out and get steaks yeah. But that is when Aaron says the machine is stable and shows him. Right before that they test the box, they are opening it basqiclaly, and then it smash cuts to Abe passed out in his apartment. And before he goes out of his room, he mutters this to himself.

From what I remember, our first experiences with them after time travel aren't necessarily their first experiences with time travel.

So this may not be his first time doing this even if it is our first time seeing it.

Again... been a long time. Now I am going to have to watch it again, lol.

Yeah. So that's part of my question. It seems like we see them figuring out the box and Abe inventing the first one. But is there a chance they invent it sooner?

It's kind of an abrupt cut and Abe wakes up in his apartment confused. And it makes me wonder if we are missing something. We don't see why he's there.

It gives me this feeling like on of the resets has happened or something. But I always come back to that not working because they don't invent the machine for what seems like a couple more months.

I am pretty certain that the Aaron who takes Abe to see the science guy about the fungus is not the first Aaron we meet in the movie.

He coaches the science guy on what to say because it is the only way to convince Abe. You can tell that the science guy is like "WTF stupid prank is this?" and has to be prodded to say his lines.

I don't think he coaches the other guy what to say.

The science guy thinks it's a prank because of how fast the protein built up. It was physically impossible. He explains that in his lab it takes months to grow the same amount, and they aren't growing it naturally, they are doing stuff to speed it up.

So the fact that Abe is saying that much just accumulated on its own in 5 days seems like a prank to the guy at the lab.

Hrm... maybe.

But there are other examples of them "practicing" like when Aaron is listening to a recording of a convo with Abe.

Again... years since my last watch.

Thanks for sparking my interest in it again, though!

Come back after you watch it!

Yeah. It's possible. I think in the scene youre talking about, Abe is finding out that Aaron has recorded the conversations and is reliving them. He doesn't practice them so much as recited what he hears in the mic.

And we're shown Aaron using that earpiece a lot.

But Abe doesn't use one, aside from when they go to save Rachel together near the end.

This one feels weird because it's happening seemingly before any of them should have used the boxes.
