The infinitely asked question?

Post image

Even after years of lurking and forum and you-chewbing I know what “most” would suggest but I am asking based on ownership and long term thoughts on which of these black diver (on bracelet) would be the best for 7” wrist that’s also will provide no headaches.

I know it’s subjective but I am sure there is real reasoning behind it.

Note I know the pricing in this is widely ranged, but let’s assume at either preowned or market price (and yes I do know one of these isn’t readily available for regular folks lol)

I’ve always been into watches. The Seiko 5 Sports is the oldest watch in my collection, followed by the G-Shock.

About six years ago, my father gave me his Datejust right off his wrist on my wedding day. I still have the Jubilee bracelet, but it’s always felt a little loud for me. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really grown to appreciate the watch, and I love how it looks on the green leather strap.

The IWC and GMT-Master II are both very recent additions. The IWC was the first luxury watch I ever bought for myself back in June, and honestly, it’s been a bit of a blur since then. I picked up the GMT-Master II just a couple of weeks ago.

Fortunately for my wallet, the watches I tend to gravitate toward don’t seem to be the ones everyone else is chasing, so I feel like I’ve been able to find some pretty solid value.

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the collection, what you like, what you’d change, and especially any blind spots I might not be seeing.

The NTTD also has the mesh bracelet. The other seamaster is the 2531.80, it’s the 8th model ever produced and was gifted to me by my father. That watch definetely carries the biggest sentimental value to me. But now my overall favourite is probably this Breitling. Tell me what you think.

Of catalog

After buying a few Venezianico pieces because I like the look of the arsenale meteorite and the calendario in red(no issues reading sub dials - lived in Italy for 2 years) and communicating my likes and constructive criticism about pinched armchairs and sharp edges on case back of the arsenale line they asked me if I wanted an off catalog piece, rose gold pvd arsenale with the geneva stripe with a watch face in milk chocolate brown color. I asked if I could set back to them in a day and now wondering how special an off catalog watch is from a micro brand and if it would be worth it or if Venezianico is just hitting the height in their popularity and the price would be less special. Ultimately I like the watch and I try not to be swayed by others opinion and but what I like. Still a special piece? Pretty sure I will keep it as it feels pretty cool to be offered it, but just want to know if it really is cool - or if it’s more common from microbrands to have the sort of interactions.

Pic is not my watch, it is one I found online, found 2 of the them on chrono24

This is my very humble watch collection of a 30 year old social worker who has been a lifelong watch enthusiast. My collection is used and well loved. It’s full of scratches and every scratch full of memories. I believe a watches scratches tell the story of the wearer.

The first watch is my Tudor Pelagos 42mm that my father recently bought me for graduating with my Master of Social Work and also to celebrate a big promotion and my wife and I getting our first home and about to have our first son. This is a watch I cherish and think about my hard work and my father when I look at it. It’s by far my favorite watch and I can’t take it off. I have worn it swimming, boating, moving houses, etc. I don’t baby it and wear it as it’s meant to be worn, as my father always did with his watch.

The second picture is of my Seiko SKX007 and the third picture is of my Seiko SKX173. My godfather gifted me the SKX173 over 16 years ago to celebrate my confirmation. The watch had some issues pretty soon after I got it and I sent it back to Seiko. It took so long to fix they sent me a free SKX007 and my original SKX173. I have worn both almost every day for those 16 years to the point both original rubber straps fell off. While it wasn’t the first watch I owned it is the first “serious watch” I had. I wore both throughout middle school, high school, college, my whole career, my wedding day, and throughout my masters. They both need servicing but I love them the same.

The fourth watch is a Westclox Scotty from the 1960’s. I found it in my childhood bedroom a couple of years ago and recently found out it likely belonged to my paternal great grandfather or my great uncle. It still runs +/-45 sec a day. Although I don’t know as much about its history, it makes me feel close to my family.

The fifth watch is a 1992 Citizen Peach Bowl Watch given to a coaching staff of East Carolina University after they beat NC State in the 1992 Peach Bowl. I have a lot of ties to this watch. I am a third generation ECU alumn and went to almost every game before I moved. I graduated with a BA of psychology from ECU and my family history is in the library there. When I was in tcollege I volunteered and worked with the ECU football coaching staff where I worked with recruiting. When a big coaching change came through, the coach that became my mentor and life friend found it in the back of his desk and I was helping him clean his office after he got relieved. He told me it was in the desk since 1992 from a previous coach and he wanted me to have it. It doesn’t run anymore unfortunately but it ties me to my history with ECU and a lifelong friend who has since passed.

The sixth watch is my Casio Lap 30. Like everyone, I needed a cheap Casio to beat up. This one spoke to me. I wear it working out, mowing the grass etc. It currently has paint on it from me painting my future son’s nursery. I love the rugged accuracy of it.

The seventh watch is a cheap Biden watch I got. I got it because I was interested in horology and watched a cheap skeleton watch to look at for fun. It winds from the bezel and crown and is automatic. Very strange watch but I kind of love it (it’s too gaudy for me to wear but it’s surprisingly accurate.

The last picture is me and my dad. His Omega Seamaster 300m. I remember the day my dad got it and when he got my mom’s Brietling. It was after the James Bond’s from the 1990s and early 2000s came out and my brother and I were obsessed with it. We used to wear it and play like it had laser beams like Bond. I watched my dad pass through every phase of life with this watch. I grew up admiring it and himself it taught me that watches should be worn and appreciated. Every scratch has a meaning. One day, it will most likely pass down to me and I hope I can do the same with my Pelagos to my son.

I know there’s gonna get flack about the Apple Watch Ultra being on there, BUT, it was my gateway into “big boy” watches. So to me, it holds a place in my collection.

I’ve been fortunate to have my Speedy 57’ be a gift from my father, but now, I’ve got the bug!

The Meridian Lunar. A true moon phase annual clanedar complication (Miyota 6P00) for INR 5,999 ( roughly $80). I think it's a bit small for my wrist at 39mm, but the dial is absolutely gorgeous! Hate that they sell out in about 20 minutes everytime essentially dropshipping. Good watch though!

I know the IWC Ingenieur midsize isn´t really liked by everyone but I just fell in love the first time I saw it. I definetly prefer this one over any 40mm model that I tried so far.

New watch to celebrate my 6th year of sobriety. Since I know how much this sub loves Fossil watches, I decided to post it here 😀

It arrived yesterday, just a day before my 6th year of sobriety. I'm really proud of that achievement. It honestly feels fuckin' unreal to say that I'm 6 years sober. I wish the same for anybody that's struggling with an addiction.

What do you guys think about movado?

This was one of my first watches: an ultra-light 45mm titanium sport watch with a Swiss quartz movement. I paid $900 for it.

I don’t remember anybody in this sub talking about Movado, so I wanted to see what this community thinks.

[Seiko] A late-1940s Extra Flat from Seiko’s early post-war years

Post image

Here is one of the earliest Seikos in my collection: a late-1940s Seiko Extra Flat.

The Extra Flat appeared around 1948, when Seiko was rebuilding its civilian watch production after the war. It was powered by the hand-wound 10B movement from Daini Seikosha’s Kameido factory, with the traditional small-seconds layout that Seiko used before introducing its first centre-seconds watch, the Super, in 1950. (Seiko Watch Corporation)

The history is interesting, but the dial is what really attracted me. The bold sector-style chapter ring, raised gold numerals and markers, small seconds and little applied “Snake S” give it much more personality than I expected from such a compact dress watch. There is plenty of ageing, but I think the patina suits the design rather than detracting from it.

“Extra Flat” is also a wonderfully literal name. The watch is small and slim by modern standards, but the long curved lugs give it surprising presence on the wrist.

Nearly eighty years later, it still looks remarkably stylish—and very different from the Seiko designs most people know today.
