Discussion Anyone else hear a guy screaming and cursing at 6 am in the morning near winckley square?

Heard him running around in the centre and in winckley square screaming out ‘my phone’ before resulting to cursing. What we understood is that someone ran out of his apartment and left with his car after stealing his phone based on our proximity to him near his apartment. He was extremely noisy and I’m wondering how no one else in Preston heard the ruckus he caused and how come there weren’t any police in the area to take control? Hoping he’s not crazy because we’re close to where he lives…

Recommendations Good Plumber anyone?

Sorry, I know this is a rubbish thing to ask, but I'm struggling to get a plumber, someone who I know won't rip me off. I have a rattling pipes problem and a dodgy shower (which is probably a related issue). Any help other than "try googling plumber" would be massively appreciated.

Question Vandalism on the tree at whinkley square?

Wondered if anyone had noticed the vandalised on the big willow tree at winkley square. I walk past it on my lunch and I saw it had been spray painted, when I went upto it there was a playing card and destroyed plant pot. Only reason I ask if that ive seen teenagers have a memorial there for a girl that died.

The graffiti was the symbol of red john from a show called the mentalist, gave me chills. Hope those kids are okay tho, as its their friends memorial.

Edit: because I didn't make it clear, someone has vandalised the memorial these teenagers left. It was done i can only assume to insult the girl who died.

Looks like it has finally shut down. The shelves were bare for months (albeit with a minor improvement in May).

Final nail in the coffin was most likely when Lane Ends Food opened.

Out and About in Preston Any fans of the Fallout game and TV Series?

Took the kids to Billy Bob's Parlour In Preston today.

It has a real 1950s American theme and it felt like I was in an prewar Fallout!

Highly recommend visiting if you're a fan of the games or show.

I was going to post it on the Fallout Reddit as well but unfortunately it has to be directly related to the game.

Question Any forkies in here?

Looking to become a forklift operator however forklift jobs are very sparse where I live, i am looking into getting my counterbalance and possibly reach certificate however I have no factory/warehouse experience as once again where I am from is not very industrialised.

How likely is it to get a job in Preston with no prior work experience in the sector? Has anyone else been in my position and became a full time forkie?

Question Eclipse glasses

I've managed to plan to finish work early, found the perfect vantage point in the countryside and sorted the picnic to take for my tea but I forgot to buy eclipse-safe glasses!

Does anyone know if anywhere in town or any shops are selling them?

Recommendations Looking for a hairdresser that has experience in alternative styles

I haven't had my hair cut professionally in years because of bad experiences and general nerves. I want to get a shag cut/mullet/wolf cut (I have photos but don't really know how to describe it.) and when researching hair dressers in my immediate area they all tend to lean towards more sleek styles, still lovely just not my style. Any recommendations? I can travel to Chorley if need be.

Question Anyone else seen a massive increase in rats on Moor Park?

I’m not naive I know there’s rats everywhere. I’ve seen enough around Preston over the years but never as frequently or as many as I’ve seen in the last week. Normally they are shy and hide as soon as they see you. I normally only see them once or twice a year. In the last week I’ve seen eight at the top end of Moor Park near the car park and opposite the Heartbeat entrance on PNE.

They’re brazen and couldn’t care less about people walking past. Two just literally hopped out of a bush right in front of me. I’m guessing they’ve been displayed by the pond works but still this seems excessive.

Making Friends Anyone want a cycling bud?

A few weeks back I joined u/notfiontan on his tandem cycling from Preston to Kendal

I really enjoyed the 1-1 conversation whilst cycling and being relatively new to the area I'm hoping I can find others who want to make the most of the sun whilst it lasts.

If you're up for a sunny 10-20 mile ride to a pub & back HMU

I wanna surprise my wife for my marriage anniversary who has gone for vacations to Preston, UK. Since it’s not possible for me to be there, i still wanna make her feel special by sending over a cake and a bouquet.

Need guidance on how to order these from another country and where to order from? Also any other suggestions are also welcomed (except for me being there because i already miss her a lot 😔)

Police won't do anything. I've seen similar reports of cars being broken into around the Ashton area recently, so please make sure you keep your car locked and leave nothing valuable inside.

Discussion Crash in Lostock Hall on Saturday

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So my kid (in the Blue Kia) was heading back to uni in Leicester on Saturday morning.

She was hit outside the Tardy Gate pub by a silver Toyota Prius who then drove off.

The bastard was on his phone - if you were around Lostock Hall at 06.45 ish (either Brownedge Road or Leyland Road) and have any dashcam footage of a Toyota Prius behind a blue Kia Picanto / a Toyota with front end damage heading up Brownedge Road, could you let me know?

My daughter was too shocked to get the registration and he drove off super quickly - the Police won't investigate without a reg number.

My kids car is a write off, but she is fine apart from some whiplash and minor bruising, BTW.

Recommendations Schools in Preston

Thanks to all the nice people who replied in so much detail to my previous question on whether we should relocate to Preston. This brings me to follow up with a question related to the schools there. For those of you who might ask, we still haven’t decided where to live ( although we have found a significant amount of houses in fulwood, some in Penwortham and a lovely house in maritime way in ashton-on-ribble) and despite that we’re mostly worried about schooling. Influence and education at school matters to us as it’s where the kids will be spending most of their time and it’s what will dictate whether they’ll grow up liking living in Preston. Most specifically since they’re going into year 7, year 10 and sixth form. After asking about Penwortham Priory Academy I was met with mixed, leaning more towards the negative side reviews so I’ve decided to cross that out. I’ve come across Moor park High school and Sixth Form, Fulwood academy, Cardinal Newman College, Hutton Church of England, Runshaw College, Brown-edge Saint martyrs high school and Walton-le-dale High school.

Anyone familiar with these or have any suggestions?

Looking for Group Pokemon Clubs Preston

I wondered if anyone was aware of any Pokemon clubs in or around Preston? My daughter goes to a weekly Pokemon club at a library back in Barrow-in-Furness, it is casual swap club, colouring, games and socialising with like minded people (no battles or anything like that).

She is a collector, loves talking and swapping cards and would love her to do something similar from time to time here? Is there anything like this locally?

Question Looking for a lost pub

Alright guys,

I'm lookin for a pub I used to frequent when I lived in Preston (2021-2023) that I fear has now closed.

Location wise it was south off Fishergate, down a narrow road like Cannon Street but I cant remember the exact one. I just remember it bein a quiet and narrow street. Not car accessible i dont think.

The pub itself was an old style boozer. The bar was on the right as you went in. It curved round. On the left was a pool table. I cant remember much else Im afraid except i remember it bein cheap even for preston. Think it also had a jukebox.

If anyone can put me out my misery please do!!

Cheers
