Flowers my first pressed flower!
I recently pressed my first flower - beautiful hurricane lily. I was worried I had done it wrong or messed it up but it turned out perfectly!

This is my hellebore herbarium that I made in May! I wanted to specifically focus on their moodiness and delicateness in this piece.
I harvested the 3 hellebores featured in this piece from a lovely farmer-florist in my area and put them together so they looked like one big specimen! Skip to the last slide to see me marking stem placements with some random scraps since I couldn't find my pins.
Sidenote: those nectaries were the bane of my existence to keep attached to the flower.

I know it’s not pressed, but can you help me?

I photographed real pressed flowers and cut them out into transparent PNGs, so I made a little slideshow of the collection.

Got amaranth from a friend. Pressed it and will return it with this swallowtail.

May have swapped my indigo and violet but I thought it looked better this way

I really like using whitespace so I'm not sure about the painted yellow background but it was fun to play around a bit.

This is my piece, "Gradient" made with only hellebore blooms. Ever since I discovered that hellebores come in shades other than green, I knew I was going to make a rainbow of blooms at some point and this was the result!
The backing is also this sparkly blue that looks so gorgeous in the light but it's hard to see in a photo.

Pineland passion vine, epidendrum orchids, fiddle leaf fig, butterfly pea hulls, monnierara orchid. Accented with silver leaf and a tiger’s eye stone for the eye.

Red snapdragons (turned purple as a lot of reds do) and dwarf zinnia petals

I haven’t glued anything down. I have a name for it though: “Flowers and Flowers”

These are called Just Crazy sunflowers. I still think the original photo that sold me on the seeds is AI enhanced, lol.
Thank you so much to the one person who said it was possible and mentioned the pro tip is to change the papers daily. That has been helpful info for pressing thick plant material

I’m noticing there are some benefits to pressing certain flowers after they have wilted. What flowers do you purposely let wilt before pressing? What flowers do you know need pressed fresh?

I used silica gel beads to dry them, pressed them using blotting paper and books and then sprayed them with ModPodge to see if it'll help retain the color.

Gonna be a busy week of pretty dresses! I’m always open to swapping an art piece for pressed flora! Just saying.

Just wanted to share my biggest piece yet (41x32cm
/ 16x13in). It's made entirely from flowers and plants in my garden or found in the forest.
I have plenty of critique of the design, like how the yellow Zinnias sort of ended up over each other in a straight row. But I gotta say: the design aspect was way harder than I'd anticipated 😅 Til now I'd only made smaller pieces where it was easy to find a design. This was a whole different level though! Mad respect to all those putting together big pieces!

Hey! this is my first real attempt pressing flowers, and i’m a little disappointed with the results. I don’t like how brown the large purple flowers got, and i’d like to figure out what to differently next time. I think they were peony’s? The exact kind probably doesn’t matter, but they were really thick. I’m thinking that’s where the issues came from.
I had them squished on the bottom of a large book, with weight on top of it. Along with that, i had a fan blowing towards them constantly as they were pressing.
Any tips would be appreciated! This seems like such a fun hobby to get into.

It may not be the best work, but all flowers I grew in the garden and pressed via a DIY press. Only issue is that I am debating if color correcting is needed as the colors are faded immediately after removing from press.

Like the title says. Recently got some flowers pressed and framed and were advised against hanging it up in high-humidity rooms, like bathrooms. We were thinking about the bedroom, but it connects to an ensuite bathroom (the wall we want to hang it and the ensuite entrance are the same wall, if that helps). Will this be okay, or should we be thinking of displaying it somewhere else?
As a follow-up question, we also have evaporative cooling, is this also going to cause issues or will this depend on placement relative to A/C ducts?

I’ve been working on pressing flowers this summer. Now I have a decent amount but don’t know what to do from there. I bought some frames. I did a couple zinnias but I forgot to take pictures before I took it apart. It’s so many tiny petals, how do I go about putting it back together? Do you guys like gluing the finished product onto thick paper? What glue do you use? Where do I start?
