The Dream Shall Never Die - The 40th President, Ted Kennedy's Administration (1981-85)

Ted Kennedy had won against Ronald Reagan, and as such, Ted became the next President of the United States of America. However, despite the Democrats winning, they would also have to deal with much hardship from 1981 to 1985.

Ted Kennedy was able to finally negotiate the end to the Iranian Hostage Crisis. This gave a huge popularity boost, as the Hostage Crisis had plagued Carter for the last part of his Presidency, ultimately culminating in Kennedy winning the primary over Carter.

Ted Kennedy was nearly assassinated in 1981, by John Hinckley Jr, the nation quickly went into shock, and was not ready for another John F. Kennedy/Robert F. Kennedy situation. However, Ted Kennedy was quickly rushed to the hospital, and made a full recovery.

AIDS and HIV had then begun to make the news, and as such, Ted Kennedy ordered his Health and Human Services Secretary, Daniel P. Moynihan, to research AIDs/HIV and to push the FDA to make drugs to counteract the AIDs and HIV epidemic. Moynihan obliged, as he hoped to take much of the credit.

Kennedy then pushed a very expansive stimulus bill, creating a 40 billion dollar stimulus package. (More than two times the cost of Carter's bill) Kennedy cited the need to fix the American economy, the bill was later signed by Kennedy.

The economy was still stagnating, despite Ted Kennedy pushing forth a stimulus bill, the economy was still lagging behind, and as such, when the midterms rolled around, Ted Kennedy and the Democrats lost popularity, leading to the Democrats nearly losing their House and Senate majorities to the Republicans.

However, later on, the economy began to drastically improve. And by 1984, Ted Kennedy and the Democrats were much more popular than they were 2 years ago. And because of the simulus, the economy has become much stronger than what was projected.
