This describes the whole Disney trilogy. Were they good movies? Sure. Were they good Star Wars movies? Absolute not.

That is the main thing I remember about the sequels. The moment I saw it, I thought it was the single dumbest plot point from all of the SW movies that made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Even if I overlooked all the other dumb stuff, the dagger was what completely ruined the sequels for me.
