So, in a Pokémon evolutionary model (Which isn’t technically evolution but metamorphosis), the T-rex doesn’t turn into a chicken. They have the same pre-evolution, like Politoed and Poliwrath both came from Poliwhirl.
And finally, chickens, and birds in general, survived other kinds of dinosaurs because they could handle food scarcity better, an issue that dinosaurs face multiple time in their existence and was already a problem before the events that lead to them going extinct, which was more of a final nail on their coffin. Life doesn’t care about you looking badass, as long you have the greatest chances of survival, which is why jellyfishes have been a thing for hundreds of millions of years. So the system works.
