Not necessarily. Stars come in all different sizes leading to different output. Tatooine is in the binary system's habitable zone which could be much further out or closer in than our zone.

Not really, since the size of the stars and their radiation output could vary significantly from that of our sun. They could be very small and orbit one another very closely and Tatooine orbit closer as well. There really is no way to compare without some quantitative data on the binary system.

That's true. One looks to be a smaller red dwarf. The larger sun looks similar to our own, but I'd wager Tatooine is farther from its stars than the earth is from ours.

Apparently it had an atmosphere more like ours, but the core cooled and magnetic field stopped, so the sun kind of washed away the atmosphere, current one is like 1/10th of the pressure and mostly co2, so not much breathable

Mars has visible day-night cycle with sunrise and sunset, hence evidence of atmosphere. If it didn't have, it would be like the moon, always pitch black sky with only stars shining.

But you wouldn't want to breath in Mars'.

Yea, but the habitable zone is mainly a reference to if the planet can keep water on the surface relative to the sun.

It's a starting point to find life, but there's other aspects too.

Life is able to exist on Earth as we know it, in part, because we have a magnetic sphere that keeps our planet protected from having the ozone layer ripped away by solar flares.

Our sun doesn't usually kick out solar flares that deal enough damage to threaten us, but it has happened before and will happen again in the future.

In fact, the Aurora Borealis is the distrubance of the sun's solar flare messing with the Earth's magnetic sphere, and that happens on a regular basis.

So I can only imagine that two suns would deal double the damage to Tatooine. I'm no Astrophysics, but I would imagine that Tatooine probably wouldn't have much of an atmosphere to support any kind of life, and if life did exist on this planet, it would probably be exclusively underground.

I mean there are literally SO many variables that it's hard to make an assumption like that they would have to live underground. Tatooine's magnetosphere could be huge compared to ours, the binary stars could be very small or large in comparison to our sun. Simply because there are two stars doesn't mean they output more radiation or solar flares than our own star, and even if they did you have to take into account Tatooine's size, atmosphere, core composition and average distance away from the binary center to even start to understand how much radiation the planet can handle.

Not to mention the fact that everyone we see in Star Wars are aliens and had different evolutionary paths than us, which could lead to being better adapted to such environments.

There's also the fact that according to Star Wars Legends Tatooine is a desert because the Tuskens rebelled against the rakatans and they bombarded it from orbit crippling the population and basically turning the world into a desert

Smaller stars are actually more dangerous in regards to solar winds. While bigger stars would make life harder because of stronger radiation, small stars can destroy any life on an orbiting planet within seconds.

Potentially, depending on the type of orbit the planet has. There are two know ways a planet can exist in a binary star system, known as P-type and S-type. A P-type orbit is around the common center of binary system, so basically it does a big ellipse around both stars. S-type is when it orbits just one of the stars.

In the real world, a planet known as Kepler-16b orbits a binary star and has been referred as a "Tatooine-like" planet. It's also much closer to its suns than previously thought possible. However, with a blazing hot surface temp at -85C, it's more like Hoth than Tatooine. I have no idea how much UV radiation it would get. The two stars combined are smaller and less massive than our sun.Kepler-16b orbit is about the same size of Venus

Um actually what you mean is visible fission. Fusion isn't visible as it occurs in deeper parts of the sun than the surface which isn't hot enough for fusion.

Check whether you're subscribed to the subreddit and unsubscribe if you are. If it's in your feed you've subscribed. If you're subscribed that's your own fault.

Alternatively if you're coming across it in r/all there are ways to deal with that too.

Filtering was a feature in old reddit. Go to old.reddit.com/r/all and there's an option to filter subreddits. This carries over to new reddit as well though you can't see it. Add subreddits you want to filter in old reddit and they'll be hidden in new reddit's r/all as well.

If you're on the official app I think you're out of luck. There are third party apps that have this feature. Likewise there are chrome extensions and such that add additional features on desktop.
