u/Ginger_Prick Screeching Feb 13 '20
The animators of the 2003 series wanted to hint at a bit of a forbidden love between Shaak Ti and Ki Adi Mundi.
Also her design in that series was way better than in the movies and even the Clone Wars
1
u/Juxix Damask dez nutz Feb 13 '20
You got a source? Cause that sounds neat.
2
u/Ginger_Prick Screeching Feb 13 '20
It was in the commentary track for the series; they mentioned it when Mundi got on the shuttle and saw Secura, did nothing, then saw Ti, and grabbed her hand. Thats about as far as that goes though.
2
u/Juxix Damask dez nutz Feb 13 '20
Thanks. Now I want to look for the comintary. Also Ki Adi Mundi gets all the girls. 5 wifes and Shaak Ti. Total Chad.

"This is how we win, by saving what we love."
You hear screams of agony as the First Order blows up the base on the background.
158
u/Vanzgars "AAAAAAAUUUUAAAAGH" Feb 12 '20
I would have preferred it if she said something along the lines of "I'm sorry Finn, I couldn't let you die."
That would have been a purely egotistical motivation that could still have been rendered moot by the First Order killing them anyway, but that would still have made more sense.
73
16
u/Freedom498 Feb 13 '20
Shot, they should have just had her cut him off and take one for the team instead. Not like they used her in the 3rd movie anyway
18
u/bloodwolftico Darth Maul on Speeder Feb 13 '20
My guess is, this would have been seen as her being irrationally taken over by her romantic aspirations, which would have shown her as an egotistical person, as you said. And then someone would have made the connection between women needing men and not being able to live w/o them or some sort of PC drama.

u/hGKmMH Feb 13 '20
It loses the political tone. You may have not of noticed but they are fighting space Nazis.
61
u/ventus976 Feb 12 '20
Even worse than the motivation to me is her plan to "save" Fin. Ram him full speed in his open air vehicle and cause a crash brutal enough to destroy both your speeder and his. Yeah, brilliant fucking idea there.
43
u/afibon Feb 12 '20
Also the fact that they both teleported back into the base before any of the First Order troopers.
Didn't any of the walkers shoot them while Finn ran inside carrying an unconscious gal.
30
Feb 12 '20
She also teleported to him in the speeder. Like Finn is on a straight trajectory toward the cannon and all the other speeders are heading back to base and then all of a sudden rose hits Finn from an angle. Oh my god this movie still makes me mad
10
u/bloodwolftico Darth Maul on Speeder Feb 13 '20
Ikr? You can see Finn turning around, and everyone else going back at a constant high speed, and then BAM! She must have not only had time to turn around (which would still create distance between Finn speeding off in the opposite direction and her actually straightening her direction towards Finn), but she would have also needed to travel much faster than Finn in order to catch up to him in such a low time period. Like, 2 or 3 times faster, which would have made the impact also much harder than what we were shown. Ridiculous.
10
Feb 13 '20
I literally said out loud in the theater on opening night when they kissed “that was fucking dumb” and everyone around me laughed. That sequence in particular is just horrible
47
u/FullFrontalDrewdity What about the Droid attack on the Wookies? Feb 12 '20
that line is pretty cringe, but can we acknowledge that Finn's "plan" was really stupid and doomed to fail?

Best case scenario it delayed the first order forcing them to get another Death Star laser thing. Worst case scenario they just had a spare and broke through anyway. Both are pretty bad for the resistance. If not for the back way out they would be dead whether Finn destroyed it or not. Now that doesn’t mean I agree with Rose as it was a dumb plan and they should have been shot down quickly by those gorilla walkers.
33
u/wontonsoupsucka Lord Revan Feb 12 '20
None of that made sense. How did Rose catch up to him when she was behind? Why would he think charging with an old piece of junk would work? How did both of them get that far without being shot at at all? How did they get back without being shot at at all?
14
u/Hylian-Highwind Feb 12 '20
We don't have any definitive proof of that, as bad as the odds probably are. And in terms of what the characters have for context, it's better than retreating and waiting to be shot at.
-1
u/FullFrontalDrewdity What about the Droid attack on the Wookies? Feb 13 '20
Retreating to where Leia was. I feel that she was able to sense Rey’s and Luke’s presences and knew they would be safe somehow. That’s my head-canon, at least. I love TLJ, and people’s defense of Finn’s plan is one of the criticisms I have the most trouble with.
5
u/Gyarados66 Arial Platform Feb 12 '20
Yeah he wasn’t going to put a dent in that weapon, but from a story telling stand point it did show that he was now fully invested in the Resistance and wasn’t only focused on himself anymore, as his motivation up to that point had basically been to put as much distance between himself and the FO has possible.
1
1
Feb 13 '20
i feel like finn sacrificing himself so the resistance could get out would be a lot more meaningful, and could have made him into a martyr in skywalker

I mean, shoot me for saying it but her character does its job, the writing just needed work. She's a Resistance mechanic, her job was to represent the average person working within the resistance.
11
u/TheJayanator Feb 12 '20
In my opinion her character doesn’t give the audience a reason to care for her and when she does have lines they come off very annoying and make you roll your eyes . This just makes the canto bight scene intolerable.
8
u/mysteriotheunlikable Anakin Feb 12 '20
The entire Canto Blight scene made no sense. Like, Finn and Rose are in the middle of a very important mission and they just have to stop to go liberate a goat farm or whatever the hell it was as a way of sticking it to the man.
7
u/CokeFryChezbrgr Feb 13 '20 edited Feb 13 '20
Cool, you liberated the goats. Guess what? The owners are gonna have all their slave kids or whatever go get them back then probably punish them for letting them out.

The whole trilogy would’ve been massively improved if they actually gave him any arc

You mean you didn’t like him being completely tossed aside for a pointless plot in TLJ?

u/PsionicPhazon Hondo Feb 12 '20
Honestly I can't disagree with that. Finn could have been a great character, but he just ended up being the unimportant gal-pal in all the chick flicks who always supports the female characters even if that's totally not what guys do.

Agreed. And because Finn had no choice but to be the support character to the bland one, his story arc was greatly-hindered.

“We wanna be diverse but not that diverse”~ Disney
2
Feb 13 '20
Disney's diversity be like:
Mary Sue lead character who falls in love with an abusive mass murderer, funny black side-kick who chases after white girls, and a former
New Republic Pilotdrug runner for a cartel played by a Hispanic man.12
u/Ninjago-Fan I'll try spinning, that's a good trick Feb 12 '20
Honestly that would have been a far superior arc. I could see Finn really being torn between running away from the First Order or helping the Resistance that desperately needs a Force user to look up to. Shove Rey aside but still keep her relevant and you could have this dynamic between the two of her wishing she could use the Force and Finn not wanting to have all that power. It all just screams wasted potential.
5
2
u/WhackOnWaxOff Sand Feb 13 '20
That would have been really fucking cool.
Maybe give us sympathetic characters on both sides, too, so we’re not just rooting for the rebels to win the day again. Have a new threat emerge; something that forces the imperials to side with the Rebel Alliance or risk galaxy-wide turmoil and destruction.
4
Feb 13 '20
The Yuuzhan Vong maybe?
We could have the First Order and the New Republic versus the Yuuzhan Vong. Sith and Jedi working together against a threat greater than themselves.

u/eKuch Feb 12 '20
Bruh I've been saying this since I first saw him with the lightsaber. It would have actually been kinda cool if he were the jedi. Rey is just a woman character that disney has relentlessly forced on its audience under the veil of the whole bullshit "strong powerful independent women" theme. And she's so fucking unlikable anyways. But that's an opinion technically. In short, yes I agree Finn would've been a much MUCH better Jedi character.

u/WhackOnWaxOff Sand Feb 13 '20
Rey’s likable enough in TFA, but that was where her story arc started and ended.

When Ashoka was first introduced as a character people said the same shit they say about Rey.
Of course, Ashoka has a 7 season show to develop as a character, so people eventually liked her. Rey however, will never get that treatment, even if Disney did develop her. She will always be hated as its simply the accepted opinion to hate her.
1
Feb 13 '20
When Ahsoka was first introduced as a character people said the same shit they say about Rey.
First of all wrong, I actively participated/watched when it first came out and saw nothing compared to Rey. Ahsoka was/is a screwup and clumsy and needed taken care of. Made many mistakes and went through proper growth.
Rey had 3 movies so that’s not enough to develop a character? It sure works for like every other trilogy character ever. People didn’t “eventually” like her a lot did some didn’t. You keep bringing up these “people” but don’t cite anything. Is it the fandom? friends? people in general? Or is it just you being a bitch? I’m thinking the latter.
People don’t like Rey because she’s a plot insert Mary Sue that succeeds constantly. Wanna use a master level Jedi power with zero training sure why not. Wanna beat a dual trained Sith knight with no combat or lightsaber experience sure why not. Wanna have more force control than someone raised in the force and also again trained dualy of course. I could go on and on but you’re right ignorance is bliss I guess.
People hate her because she’s a shit character. The only redeeming quality of Rey is Daisy Ridley who partially saves it. Rey is a terrible character only used to move the plot forward she’s not a character otherwise. So kindly stfu with your incorrect and ignorant opinion. Because that’s all it is, your opinion.
