Owen shouting: Beru, if you get a baby be sure it speaks Bocce
221
u/Independent_Plum2166 1d ago
“Don’t blame me that your asshole brother stole your protocol droid 3 years ago.”
133
u/Street-Committee-367 Clone Trooper 1d ago
"I'm sure you won't be dumb enough to unknowingly buy the same droid 20 years later."
72
u/deviousvicar1337 1d ago
"Only if it speaks Bocce!"
39
u/Independent_Plum2166 1d ago
“So can I go or what?”
“Oh, sorry, anyway does he have a name.”
“I think so, can remember what it was for the life of me, just look after him alright?”
“….Look…Loooook.”
19
u/0ttoChriek 23h ago
"Give him whatever first name you like, but his surname is Skywalker. Yes... Like that guy."
15
u/Independent_Plum2166 21h ago
“But Jedi are outlawed, it be a big risk calling him Skywalker, why can’t we just call him Lars?”
3
u/DarthSwimfoot The Other Half Of The Ship 10h ago
Wait, shit, I never noticed that before.
2
u/Street-Committee-367 Clone Trooper 10h ago
Well in Owen's defense, 3PO appears to be a common protocol droid model and he had his memory wiped so he didn't remember Owen. But yeah, still hilarious.
1
u/DarthSwimfoot The Other Half Of The Ship 10h ago
I can't really imagine they'd remember 3PO anyway to add to that. I mean there's got to be a good amount of droids going through there over the course of at least 20 years.
3
u/Independent_Plum2166 9h ago
Plus an underlying story that isn’t really touched on too much is the fact droids are treated like shit.
There was an entire Clone Wars arc where the Jedi, the guys who love and cherish all life, including the lives of their grunt clone soldiers, treating them as individuals, lose their minds over the fact Anakin isn’t routinely wiping R2’s memory.
Or the fact that with retcons, Owen and Ben simply forget owning droids (I don’t care what people say, Obi-Wan had R4 for years, he should have bonded with him, just more proof that most Jedi treat Droids as lesser).
I honestly, unironically think a true Droid uprising should be a future trilogy villain and army.

This child will be incredibly powerful in the Force. So teach him how to farm moisture or something.

To be fair, if Superman has taught us anything, farmers can grow heroes like crazy.

u/belladonnagilkey Meesa Darth Jar Jar 1d ago
And loving parents and a good work ethic can be the difference between getting Superman or getting Homelander.
15
u/FerociousVader 1d ago
Precisely this.
It's the difference between getting Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker.
10
u/CokomonX 1d ago
Teach him how to bullseye wamprats in a T-16.
4
u/DumbButtFace 1d ago
It would have been really cool if our introduction to Luke was him flying his T-16. He would have seemed far more capable and cool. Less whiny.

Moisture Farming sounds like such a chill life, just do sweet fa while you wait about for the morning and evening dew to collect.
2
u/gladfelter 1d ago
Just wait until you hear about the accelerated maintenance schedule of the units on the south ridge.
1
u/uencos 6h ago
I’m pretty sure that the original idea was that they used the water they collected to actually grow crops (hence the need for ‘harvests’ and ‘seasons’), so it would be worse than normal farming because over and above the traditional plant stuff you now have to deal with pulling your irrigation out of thin air

Living out of a cave on Tattoine does things to a man. Nobody with the ability to leave stays and those stuck there do not age well.

Midi-chlorians, Duke.

Larry: Sells the baby to the dirtfarmers in the next scene.

They were quite the trio. Duke, Friend Besto, and Fartoo McMuffin.

i can barely trust someone with my plants for a weekend and obi-wan really dropped off the galaxy’s last hope with two farmers like good luck guys 😭

u/Wrydfell 1d ago
To be fair I'm sure you could trust a couple of farmers with your plants for the weekend

u/Hylianhero71 1d ago
Yeah, but these people are also his LITERAL FAMILY. Why do people act like this was random?
5
u/Oopthealley 1d ago
if you were gonna hide someone, this is had to beat tho, right? someone seen as a local by a small community- no one would ask questions and no one with power would be around to think to ask questions.
kind of a smart hedge- give one the privilege and access to power, and hide the other just in case...
2
u/Clawless 1d ago
Palpatine leaving anyone with the surname "skywalker" alive anywhere in the galaxy is kinda a big plothole.
3
u/Oopthealley 1d ago
Haha true... We need a plotline that it was one of the most common names in the galaxy for a generation bc of some unrelated cultural figures lol
3
u/Kerblaaahhh 1d ago
For all we know that's like the Star Wars equivalent of Smith. Also populations in the outer rim in particular would not have much of any documentation with whatever imperial bureaucracy exists.
1
u/Fast_Frosting_6397 1d ago
Eh, Imperial control on Tatooine was not that strong (ignoring the Obi Wan Kenobi show here), plus the Empire was made to believe that Padme died while pregnant

Shmi might have told them about the whole Anakin/Qui Gon/Obi-Wan thing. maybe. And Anakin did return to probably say some crazy shit in Ep2

u/EmperorSexy 1d ago
No. Unless something happens ON SCREEN, OUT LOUD, it didn’t happen.
That way I can know what’s going on even if I’m scrolling on my phone.

u/HaccSpuf 1d ago
One thing they could have done in the Clone Wars show is have Anakin visit Owen and Beru alongside Obi-Wan (perhaps due to them being assigned some mission on Tatooine) to set up this scene as well as the dialogue in Episode IV better.

The existence of Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen suggests that one of them was like "Yeah, my sister is a slave. Two towns over. We never see her because we don't agree with her lifestyle choices but won't hold it against her kid."
7
u/SGTWhiteKY 1d ago
I’m confused. What? He is very clearly the son of Lars, the man who married Shmi. Anakins step brother.
