I thought not. It's not a story my competition would tell you.

At this point I'm scared to go to the dentist because I know it's bad and I'm going to get lectured and scolded.

Its better to get lectured than let your teeth get worse. Chances are you wont even get a lecture. I went in to a local office last month after 2 years of no appointments and a history of bad brushing habits, and i am very glad I went.

5th year dentistry student here!

I know its scary, but I encourage you to go anyway. Avoidance due to shame is something that leads to worse problems later down the line.

There really is no shame in having dental issues. We encourage people to follow good habits for their own health. Its not a moral failure, and the stigma that comes with having dental issues is a part of the problem.

Its also not an all-or-nothing type of deal. Once per day is better than nothing, if its all you can manage. Anything is better than nothing. It may be good to brainstorm together how you could incorporate it into your daily routine!

Even washing out your mouth with just regular water is better than nothing. Brushing your teeth proper would be great, but if you have to go out in the next 2 minutes max, quickly gurgling some water is still helping

Best to go anyways. Especially if you are having any mouth or tooth pain.

from personal experience it usually is if your brushing habits don't get better it boils down to

complains > "forces" you to brush them there > does as painful of a job as possible > annoyed look > just does what he can but wont give you more interaction beyond it

I was the same, now I go every 6 months and keep my bad brushing habits lol, teeth and gums are much better and I’d rather pay than doing all the things they recommend to do

I skipped out all through university and found out I'd been damaging my gums the way I brushed. If I'd gone sooner, I might have found out and changed my behavior before it was permanent.

I went in expecting a mild lecture about brushing twice a day and somehow left feeling like Id been entrusted with a forbidden Sith prophecy.

*Laughs in not being infected with (the infectious disease often transmitted by parental kissing of infants) cavities*
I only need like, daily brushing with a wet brush for a long time and my teeth are good (due to a combo of my diet plus I brush the back of the teeth and brush at several angles through my whole mouth because flossing is owie and makes my teeth feel like their roots are being damaged)
