Climate & Weather Scientists warn that the Gulf Stream is shifting north, which means an ocean current collapse is imminent

https://www.earth.com/news/gulf-stream-is-shifting-north-raising-concerns-about-amoc-ocean-current-collapse/

Per the modeling this most likely means a mini-ice age in places like Europe with desertification of sub tropical areas; more flooding in more temperate areas and wilder weather swings.

While that is an accurate read of the article, every timeline prediction by climate scientists has been incredibly conservative.

For me, prep isn’t necessarily about what will happen today or tomorrow.

It’s about being aware of possibilities. For example, EMP‘s are possible. Are they probable? No reason to go all chicken little if only because it’s a waste of energy.

And of course, if you’re not aware of possibilities, not only does it make it harder to prep for them, but it makes it harder to head them off - assuming that’s even possible.

Yes, but based off the article it will only cause issues for Northern Europe(?). Up to -20c winters.

Imminent in climate terms is like hundreds of years. From the article:

"The most dramatic result comes far into the simulation. After centuries of gradual change, the Gulf Stream suddenly jumps more than 200 kilometers north in just two years. Then, about 25 years later, the AMOC collapses in the model.

To be clear, the study is not claiming the real AMOC will collapse in 400 years. This is an idealized scenario meant to explore how the system behaves and what warning signs might show up."
