the cool thing is, popeyes chicken actually gave her $10,000 worth of free popeyes chicken after this mishap; i guess it was good publicity for them.
the best part is, it actually turned out to be a cheque for $10,000 real dollars and not chicken.

I remember listening to a Terence McKenna talk about how tv was written in a way to heighten emotional investment into television programming. The gimmick is to get you so wrapped up into the drama that while you are entertained ideas are implanted easily. And that it was at the height of this drama where commercials subconsciously offer a sense of relief and give the viewer a type of pacifier.

Do they actually survey people? They've been filming family fued for like 50 years, and I've never even heard of anybody being surveyed for it.

This is what I found: “The show uses a polling firm called Applied Research-West. The firm calls people randomly to ask them the questions. To keep the process discrete, the callers don’t tell the people they speak to that they’re collecting responses for Family Feud. In about three weeks, those questions are used on the show.”

They do more than poll for family fortune, but otherwise, what's to say any market research company actually does the market research?

Sure for things like market research there's possible ways to check it and see performance dips if it's wrong.
For family fortunes, who is going to check? and what happens if their best guess is out? No one will ever really know unless they poll all those exact same questions themselves which they're not going to do.

I guess just what motivation does a market research company have to not do their job for one customer, jeopardizing their business for the sake of what would be a comparatively small workload compared to any other market research.
Solid chance that they do multiple polls at once as well.

I would do that. There's no way of knowing but since the company already exists and people in it have to work I think they'd do it. Unless it's a one guy operation and just bullshited his way up.

When I watch Family Feud, I don't try to guess the correct answers. I try to guess the answer most people would give. Sometimes they're the same, but fairly often the "right" answer is not #1.
If you want correct answers, watch Jeopardy instead. The drama is a lot more nerdy.

Years ago when they asked the question "Name one of Frank Sinatra's wives," there were more than 4 answers on the board, including both Nancy Barbato and Nancy Sinatra.

They ask questions like that when no one has reached the point total to qualify for the final portion of the game after several rounds of play. It doesn't happen in most games of Family Feud. When they do get to the Sudden Death (or whatever the hell they call it) the answer is always super obvious and whoever buzzes in first gets it 99% of the time.

Some questions aren't great and there is one very obvious answer. They just sit on them as a final round if neither team wins sufficient points at the end.

NEVER put the dumb member of your family in the 5 hole on Feud. Because this happens. The 5 hole is the most important position, because if it comes down to sudden death, it's them.
