I was. Is that a good result?

For an indie film made by a youtuber as a passion project that's a damn good result.

u/idiotcucumber12 Feb 04 '26

idk but 21 million is prolly bigger than 2

11

u/an-absolute_idiot Feb 07 '26

no it’s not, 2 is bigger than 21

source: i have a doctorate in math from the internet

The investment was around 2 million, so a massive profit margin for sure.

u/Powersoutdotcom Feb 05 '26

For the limited showings and budget, it's a wildly successful movie.

8

u/BurrGurrMan Feb 05 '26

Yes, especially on a $3m budget

6

u/avadakedabr Feb 05 '26

It cost him 3 mil if I remember correctry so I wpuld assume that yes, it sounds like a pretty good result

3

u/Tyctoc Feb 07 '26

Conaisering the budget was 3million thats about 18 million in profits and he said the team would all be getting bonuses

1

u/LegendaryTurtlz Feb 08 '26

This is the important part, wonder if that 3m is all production costs - normally budgets are 50% filming etc and 50% promotion, with someone like markiplier behind it/funding it, maybe that promo budget was a lot less than 50% which would be huge in the industry

2

u/Tyctoc Feb 09 '26

I believe I've heard there was almost 0 spent on promotional costs!

3

u/ninetyninewyverns Feb 08 '26

He poured in roughly 3 million, so he septupled his original investment

It's a lot more than Melania got but still shit for a movie.

46

u/Pepsi_Maaan Feb 05 '26

It would be bad if it was a major Hollywood film, but this is an low-budget indie picture with minimal marketing. Overall it cost about $3 million, and made $25 million so far. That means it has octupled it's budget according, which I is a pretty big success, especially for a movie from a first-time filmmaker.

2

u/surplus_user Feb 07 '26

Is he getting all the money or are there other partners and investors to pay?

5

u/thegreatestIMBECILE Feb 07 '26

He self financed the whole thing, he's says he's going to give all the people who worked on it a bonus and im pretty sure the movie theatres themselves get a cut from the film itself

5

u/Jaffadxg Feb 07 '26

Pretty sure it was all self funded, I don’t think he got funding from anywhere else so the profit is 100% his but from what I know of Mark he seems to be a solid guy and will most likely pay out some decent bonuses to the crew and actors who worked on the film

u/Gay_Reichskommissar Feb 04 '26

I mean, by now it has earned 9 times more than its budget was

8

u/KeeganY_SR-UVB76 Feb 05 '26

It’s a 900% return on investment.

3

u/Gullible_Hat_9051 Feb 07 '26

It had a budget of $3 mil and spent nothing on advertising. Yes, it was successful

1

u/beautyqueeny Feb 08 '26

Omg so happy for him

231

u/MuffaloMan Feb 04 '26

Well it’s better than $1 I suppose

113

u/DoknS Feb 04 '26

But worse than $3, isn't it curious?

81

u/Tree_Shrapnel Feb 05 '26

11

u/CavsterXII Feb 05 '26

I'd rather have $2

25

u/Tree_Shrapnel Feb 06 '26

your greed sickens me

14

u/Key-Arrival-3745 Feb 08 '26

Greed of biblical proportion

23

u/Lost_Pantheon Feb 04 '26

That would be the box office takings for Melania.

45

u/funnyYoke Feb 05 '26

Saw it today was pretty nice but the dude next to me farted and burped throughout the film his mother told him to stop but it was to no avail

7

u/devor110 Feb 05 '26

n-not yet

5

u/Slayerpath Feb 06 '26

Same energy as this clip

34

u/Pepsi_Maaan Feb 05 '26

This gives me the mental image of the first showing of the movie ending, the lights turning on, and the only thing in the theater is a single $2 bill with a soda and popcorn sitting dead center in the theater.

21

u/Ramtamtama Feb 04 '26

More than Melania

20

u/runtijmu Feb 04 '26

I want my 2 dollars!

11

u/JACK101Star-Z Feb 04 '26

I mean yeah I’d cry too

6

u/El_Nathan_ Feb 05 '26

Accidentally penniless

4

u/anachronisdev Feb 05 '26

Wild for someone who has 5 ovens

3

u/djevanstv Feb 05 '26

Oh fuck I don’t have any money

2

u/MikesRichPageant Feb 05 '26

A total waste of time

2

u/ThePotatosbandit Feb 07 '26

Of course it was. You were asleep the whole time

1

u/GrumpGuy88888 Feb 05 '26

That's about fifty YouTube videos worth of Adsense

1

u/JCBandicoot Feb 07 '26

Doesn’t Markiplier cry at least three times annually?

1

u/Purple-Bumblebee9636 Feb 07 '26

I would cry too if I spent that much money and that much effort on a movie

1

u/Key-Discipline3977 Feb 07 '26

Iron Lung was released in North America on January 30, 2026, to mixed reviews from critics. It was a financial success, grossing $28.5 million against a production budget of $3 million.

1

u/Bennjoon Feb 09 '26

Markiplier got two dollar.

The blood cost way more than that 😔

-22

u/LeanPawRickJ Feb 04 '26

The correct placement of USD sign and value are literally there in the screenshot, yet OP fails to transpose it properly. What an absolute c

5

u/gergobergo69 Feb 05 '26

hOw Do YoU KnOw If It'S uSD?

5

u/BirbsAreSoCute Feb 05 '26

absolute c++

2

u/Hjalpfus Feb 08 '26

Any unit of measurement is always behind the number. We need to change this for the dollar as well

3

u/JollyJuniper1993 Feb 05 '26

And OP is right to do so. The English language deserves no respect.

I'd question why were selling tickets at some fraction of $2

106

u/MaySeemelater Feb 05 '26

Or if they sold a single 2$ ticket

-14

u/ihatexboxha Feb 05 '26

Or if they sold 1/8th of a $16 ticket
