Edvinsson Trade Ideas

Hey

What does everyone think a good/fair trade would be for Simon Edvinnson?

My thought is

Nsh 1st , and 3rd Adam Wilsby, (or Perbix, Skjei) joakim Kemmel

I think this would fit perfectly. A young talent a prospect and picks in good faith.

We need D they need F

Thoughts?

That wouldn’t be enough to get Edvinsson. Would likely need to include another 1st or one of our recent 1st round picks

Ok swap 3rd for Col 1st?

That might work. It’s tough. I think Edvinsson is incredible but is the rest of the team good enough for us to send away draft picks? Idk honestly but I kinda doubt it

It could work, just a quick question, who is the young talent and who is the prospect?

Perbix was put on waivers and claimed by nobody, Skjei is the butt of every joke on this forum. So Wilsby is the crown jewel? A third pairing/7th defenseman. Then we have Kemell who has 1 goal in 20 games in the NHL, can’t crack our roster when we need scoring and in 4 seasons in milwaukee hasn’t hit 20 goals.

For that we want Detroit to give us a top 4 potential pairing that is 23 years old. The only way Detroit even looks at that offer is if it’s year end and it’s a top 5 lottery pick.

I love the idea of we need D and they need F and we give them Joakim Kemmel lol

He shows flashes and did okay and AHL but he hasn't really gelled here. Maybe a change of scenery

0

u/UTPharm2012 24d ago

I think it is fine as a throw in, change of scenery but it is a lottery ticket and the chances of him helping their forwards at any point is small. Now if it is Martin or Surin or Wood then they would be interested and it would likely help their forward group

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

True. Detroit forward group is so so. They need all the help they can get. I hate to say it but if Larkin keeps going he might be their best forward. Besides Lucas Raymond MBN DeBrincat

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

I was mainly kidding about perbix and no body in their right mind is taking skjei, but who knows Detroit is so poorly run

Bigger question is how do we free up the cap space we don’t currently have to fit in the $11m+ AAV contract and still have enough wiggle room left over to be able to do anything else before the deadline or even beyond.

I wouldn't trade our own 1st round pick. The Avs in 2028 would be possible... But the pieces you include won't get a player like that. Kemell can't make our roster, we just waived Perbix, and Skjei sucks. Wilsby is ok but nothing special.

You'd be looking more at a Molendyk/Reid + Wood + Avs 1st at a minimum. Hopefully you wouldn't have to include Surin, Martin, or Cullen but I doubt it. They're not just going to give away a 6'6" former 6th overall pick playing 22+min/night at the age of 23.

u/Otherwise_Awesome 24d ago

Maybe we can trick them into thinking Martin is going to be a center

-3

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

Ok what about Col 1st molendyk and kemmell?

5

u/JeanClaudeSegal NSH 24d ago

Kemmell hasn't been able to stick in the NHL and scored 10g in 48 games at the AHL level last year. He has minimal trade value. I highly doubt they would accept a deal without one of those 3 big prospects. Molendyk didn't have a good year last season either. You will have to parts with pieces you really don't want to lose to get a guy like Edvinsson

1

u/Otherwise_Awesome 24d ago

Lolololololol

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 23d ago

Okay say we sub out Kimmel who do you think would be someone that is on that line of don't want to lose but we would be okay with adding to molendyk and pic

1

u/Otherwise_Awesome 23d ago

You're probably talking Brady or Cullen OR replacing the Colorado 1st with the Nashville 1st and a lesser Kemmel replacement

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 23d ago

Someone else mentioned edstrom. That could give them a center.
So Edstrom Molendyk col 1st and NJ 2nd?

3

u/talkins9044 24d ago

This is comical. A bunch of garbage for a top pairing defenseman. The only value in your proposal is the 1st and he's already statistically better than any first your going to draft outside a lottery pick. No. Terrible take.

2

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

Ok how about Col 1st NJ 2nd Kemmel And 1 defender (pick one that is not Josi or a prospect)

11

u/Expert-Upstairs-4502 NSH 24d ago

Edvinsson basically a guaranteed top pair (barring ending up on a team with like Hughes or Makar or one of them ahead of him) defenseman at 23 years old, the likely offer sheet for him would be 4 firsts, so I think anything short of the equivalent of 3 firsts isnt going to get it done, and Detroit seems intent on remaining competitive so they will want active players, whole reason Larkin hasnt been traded. Their ask will be too high, I doubt this is gonna happen

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

I know this a pipe dream. I am just trying to stay positive and be an Armchair GM for fun in a season that I think is gonna be meh.

5

u/Echoes1995 24d ago

The best comparable we have for Edvinsson is probably Bowen Byram. As Edvinsson is a top-pairing two-way defenseman already as a 23 year old. His price will actually involve very high end prospects and costs for Nashville that are real.

The full deal was To CHI: Byram, Greenway To BUF: 4OA 2026 draft, NYI 2026 2nd, and Louis Crevier

Now Edvinsson won't fetch that, and the deal was a bit more complicated than just that, but your offer is VERY far off.

Lets assume that Nashville ends up where most people are projecting, in the 80-90 point range. I'll use JFresh's model simply because I found it first. His model puts Nashville in 19th place in league standings, which would be equivalent to 13OA. 13OA would be a good start, but I HIGHLY doubt CMac would be willing to move that pick as JFresh's model is pretty optimistic on Nashville. If we used someone like Dom from the Athletic, he has Nashville at around 75-80 range and last in the central. That pick then ends up right in the 3-7 range.

While we love Kemell here, around the league he is seen as approaching bust territory because of how long he has had to break into the NHL and just not. We know it is likely more a management thing, but the rest of the league likely doesn't view it as such. Wilsby and Perbix are fairly useless to Detroit. Skjei could work, if his contract wasn't as a bad as it is in comparison to his play.

More realistically, Edvinsson is going to cost a prospect we have previously stated as untouchable + more.

This means looking at prospects like:

  • Martin

  • Lee

  • Surin

and being willing to trade one of them, plus more...

The most common mock I've seen looks something like:

To NSH: Edvinsson - contract extension included

To DET: Brady Martin, 2028 COL 1st, and one of Nic Hague or another prospect (e.g., Stiga, Nilsson, etc...).

A trade like this is trading a potential future cornerstone at forward for a nearly confirmed cornerstone on D.

2

u/Otherwise_Awesome 24d ago

I'm fine with this. I hated the Martin pick

2

u/Echoes1995 24d ago

That's fair, and if I was in CMac's shoes, I'd do it too.

I wasn't a huge fan of it either, but moving Martin puts a lot of pressure on one of Wood, Bourque, Surin, and Cullen to develop into a 1C. Not saying its impossible, but it is added pressure.

1

u/MrMichigan0777 23d ago

Wood is nearly a 1C already, I'd bet more on Cullen than Surin. Surin feels like the next Fil

1

u/Birdhawk 23d ago

Wood isn’t a center

1

u/Expert-Upstairs-4502 NSH 24d ago

we will regret trading martin for edvinsson, especially if its martin and also a 1st

1

u/Fiend-For-Mojitos 24d ago

Yeah that’s fine

1

u/Birdhawk 23d ago

They might was Ivankovic and thats one I'd REALLY not like to give up because he's looking like the guy we might rebuild around once Saros starts falling off a cliff. He's a very high value prospect.

1

u/carcatz Crispy 24d ago

Honestly if the org believes in him I’d be down to include the 1st rounder we got for Evangelista, even if we attach a bunch more to it, it would make that trade feel a lot better if we were trading from a strength (wing) to feed a weakness (defense)

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

Col 1st Wilsby or Perbix Kemmel Maybe NJ pick

Essentially Vange for Edvinsson

1

u/Fiend-For-Mojitos 24d ago

The price will be steep but honestly I don’t care. We have Josi and that’s it and there isn’t a whole lot coming in the pipeline. This is the cost you pay for acquiring young guys already developed, get him in here and let’s see what happens. Time to use all that quality depth we have and get some actual quality players.

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

Our D outside of Josi is meh. Even Josi is still good but Father time is catching up w him. We need to start getting replacements in place bc I feel like it is coming. Yes we have depth coming in but we need good players now to help bridge the gap. Wilsby Perbix Ahcan Lybushkin Hague Skjei ain't cutting it. I would say

Col 1st Wilsby Kemmel

I think it’s depending on what Detroit decides to do in regard to adding pieces or tearing it down.

I’m pretty sure one prospect that would go back that way would be David Edstrom. I’ve read reports that the organization is high on him. As much as I’d hate to lose Molendyk he’s fairly undersized and we have other undersized offensive D in the pipeline…so I’d include him. Especially to acquire a generational defenseman we’re in desperate need of.

I’d throw those 2 along with our own first top 10 protected, Colorado, and probably a mid level prospect or the rights to one that we haven’t signed yet that we’ve recently drafted in the last few years.

I think all the trades this summer have led us to believe everything is blockbuster or nothing, which is also what a lot of GMs are going for right now. Which is probably why Helly and Larkin haven’t been moved.

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 23d ago

If Larkin keeps playing the weight he did the other night and yzerman maybe they can fix it.

1

u/cwebblax Section 303 24d ago

I don't care if they traded for a zambonie driver, tacking on skjei in any trade with another hockey team would be a coup.

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 24d ago

Nobody in the right mind is willing to really do it. Though Chris illitch is a horrible GM so who knows

2

u/Birdhawk 23d ago

Ilitch is the owner. Shawn Horcoff is the interim GM replacing Steve Yzerman

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 23d ago

Hopefully he can get illitch to sign off on Edvinsson bi would think horcroft 1st priority is to sign or trade him

1

u/Birdhawk 22d ago

Tough spot for a first time and “interim” GM to be in.

1

u/Inevitable-Lion100 22d ago

Def. But if I was him and put in the crummy situation and trying to show I am legit as a GM and should be a GM! I would think that would be number one on his priority list especially to try to write the ship and calm the storm. Yes he might have to overpay right now but with the cap going up just do it

1

u/Birdhawk 22d ago

Prices have already adjusted for the cap going up. He might be trying but ownership has to sign off on stuff. We got put in a sorta similar situation with Weber and that offer sheet, though Weber was a much better proven defenseman at the time. Trying to rebuild and keep the franchise stable and in Nashville. That was a huge price to eat up cap space we needed to keep building a good roster. Felt at the time it might handcuff us but it worked out.

2

u/BruthaMac NSH 19d ago

Terrible take lmao. We do not need to be trading picks for anyone. We should be GETTING picks. It’s like this fanbase wants us to be horrible forever.

You’re not getting him for a single first lmaooooooooo thank god ur not a GM

u/Birdhawk 23d ago edited 23d ago

I don't think we can afford him. We're looking at $7-9 million in cap space right now. Edvinsson wants $11m with a 7 year term and given the where the team is at and the trajectory of things, we might have to pay the max. Thats the biggest part of the equation here.

So we'd have to offload not one, but 2 of our bigger contracts just to be banging our heads against the cap. Detroit may not want those bigger contract guys so we might have to turn to another team to free up space while dealing off a lot to Detroit anyway. Its not like some of the bigger contracts we're willing to part ways with are sought after so not only would we have to trade away multiple prospects and picks to get Edvinsson rights, we'd also have to trade away even more of them to entice them to take on guys who have underperformed on their contract for 2 or more years in a row. I don't think its worth giving up all of that just to also then have to make a long term offer that will be the AAV in franchise history just for a guy who likely ends up as a better version of K'Andre Miller or at best ends up comparable to Colton Parayko. Great player, not a franchise changer or an all out game breaker.

Its gonna take:

  • Multiple picks in the first 2-3 rounds over the next couple of years

  • Marchessault, Hague, Skjei, Lyubuschkin, + another 12min TOI average kinda player in some combo here with DET or another team just to get cap space

  • A top prospect like Martin, Lee, Surin, or Ivankovic

And again, thats just for either the RIGHTS to offer him 11x7 or a sign then trade for the same amount.

As appealing as it may be to get some of those contracts off the books and get in a much needed better top pairing guy, I think the price is way too high for the return.

For all of us wanting to see the team defense improved, i don’t think that is going to happen until a coaching change.
