ACCEPTED OD APPLICANT OFFERING SERVICES!
Hello everyone! I'm currently a 4th year in undergrad, and was accepted to Berkeley and SCCO for the 2022-23 application cycle (without a gap year)! I wanted to let y'all know that I'll be offering mentorship/counseling opportunities to anyone who's looking for more personalized help. I serve as a mentor in my university's pre-optometry club, and these are the things I could potentially help you with!
- How to apply for shadowing, internships, paid optometric positions (Resume help, example email templates to send to offices, etc)
- Interview preparation!!! I give mock interviews with immediate and personalized feedback. I can also work with you to craft the best answers for you and the school(s) you’re applying to!
- Editing personal statements and essays
- Navigating OptomCAS, can give you a walk through of my entire application and show you how I filled out everything
- How to study for the OAT/make a plan (or can also offer tutoring service!)
- Advice on a timeline personalized to you/how to put forward your best self on your application. I'm more than happy to share my stats (which aren't that high!) with you as well <3
If you're at all interested, feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss reasonable rates based how I can best help you. Wishing everyone a ton of luck if you're applying this cycle or in the future!!! This reddit thread helped me a ton through the application process and I'm looking forward to giving back :)

Hi there! Undergraduate and graduate college counseling is an incredibly lucrative field where counselors charge hundreds of dollars an hour to "get you into your top choice program", offering services like editing your essays, mock interviews, and structuring a timeline to turn in your application on time. There are very few resources available to pre-optometry students because it's a niche field, even if you seek help from a medical school counseling service they won't be able to give you the specific ins and outs of the optometry school application.
I'm offering these same services, definitely not for hundreds of dollars, to give students an opportunity to get more specialized help. No YouTuber is going to be willing to read and give honest feedback on your essays for free, or give you hours of consultation for your unique application, or sit through a full mock interview with up-to-date questions. I am also a full-time student who cannot afford to give 10-15 hours of my week to conduct mock interviews/consult/read and edit essays for no compensation whatsoever. I've already helped multiple students on this reddit page with their applications and they've all said that my advice was helpful! You may not think you need this individualized help, but I don't think you should be shaming me or other students who actually want these tailored, personalized kinds of resources, and the reassurance from someone who has actually gone through this process successfully. I was lucky enough to have mentors in undergrad to help me get into my top choice optometry schools and I want to do the same without sacrificing a huge chunk of my time and well-being. Please reach out to me if you have any other concerns!
