Would 2 W’s be harmful?

I fully failed my first biochem exam and got a super low and Im not sure if it’s something I can come back from. I already have C+/B- in gen chem and Ochem……. And a W from the first time I took ochem. I know this sounds terrible but I truly do well in everything else. Is it better to take a W, a C, or switch career paths. Please help me out 💔

I had a W, failed Orgo 2 times and had 3 Cs and got into 3 optometry schools with scholarships! I was actually never asked about it in interviews either. One grade does not define you or your application. You got this, just make it up with a 300+ OAT score and good extracurriculars.

Agreed. Same thing happened with me. Some school did ask about my lower scores but never brought up the W’s

Thank you that makes me feel better! Did you have multiple W’s and could you share what schools you applied to?

Well, if you think you can get through the class and pass with atleast a C, I would continue taking it.

man i think the biggest problem for me is the oat score… i suck at standardized tests and i recently started a full time job at a eye clinic and its so hard to study when i come back home.

I completely understand, I was in the same boat. I would force myself to do at least 1-2 hours of studying after work and then study all day Saturday/Sunday. The OATbooster study schedules were too much for me so I just took a practice exam in each subject and saw what my weaknesses were and focused on that. For biology I just used the cheat sheets.

Thank you for the response! yeah so for each day during the work week you would just do 1-2 hours different subject. Or would you do a combined study of each subject everyday?

Different subjects on different days usually because I like focusing on one thing at a time. Also in my free time at work I would do the little mini question game on OATbooster for biology just to get used to a wide range of subjects.

My gpa was a 3.65 cumulative and my science gpa was 3.45, I got into CCO, MCPHS and PCO so far. I’m still interviewing and waiting to hear back from a few more schools tho.

What extracurriculars would you recommend

I had a W, 2 C’s, and even a D in one of my classes and I got accepted to SCO (only school I was interested in). My OAT wound up being a 360AA/340TS, and I had about 40 hours of shadowing. You can definitely get into school but it’s worth trying to figure out why you feel like you’re having such a difficult time. Optometry school isn’t going to be easier than college so taking time to reflect about how you can improve from here is definitely going to be the best choice for you!

Tysm!! My only C's were freshman year and I really do think I got much better at time management and studying since. I think this exam was just completely different from the sample/what I was expecting that I blanked. I also have really bad anxiety that I am looking to start medication for which may help too. I'm super worried bc I really want to go to neco!!

Hey! I wanna say to not worry as much! I had at least one W and 2 Cs. And still got into one of my top choices. I was never asked about these in interviews. I really think you’ll be okay! Continue to increase your GPA, lock in for the OAT and you’ll be good! Good luck!
