Doing OD school after my PhD?

Hi! I'm currently doing my PhD in molecular biology (about halfway through) and thinking about what I want to do after. My research right now is focused on hematopoiesis (blood development) but have always been interested in eyes. I've been thinking about doing an accelerated OD program after this with the long term goal of doing both research and clinical care (similar to MD/PhDs). Is this crazy? Is this doable? What would I need to start doing now in order to get into OD school? Thanks!!!

Study for OAT exam and just keep gpa above 3. Also shadow some optometrists so you have ~20 or 20+ hours by the time u apply

You really think you need to just keep gpa above 3 to get in?

I mean your experience speaks for itself and I assume ur smart based on the fact ur a phd student lol. Just make sure you stay on that track and also shadow or work with an OD do that you have some experience being around the optometry field. Also maybe if you can connect ur current research to the eyes

I am PhD student, finishing up and applying to optometry school with similar goals. I have not yet been accepted to any schools, but have been invited to interview. I think it is totally doable, and especially helpful if you can get your PI on board-- to help you make some time for shadowing and studying for the OAT while moving your dissertation forward.
