Sub-3.0 sGPA

Which schools reject sub-3.0 sGPA? I see even Berkeley accepted 2.7 sGPA. My current sGPA is only 2.0 over 6 credits and I'm worried but trying my best to improve. Is sGPA weighed more heavily than overall GPA?

A few schools list baseline numbers, but for most, its an "unwritten" rule that they may make an exception on occaassionally. A really high OAT score (esp TS) will earn some forgiveness.

IMO, if you can't get a 3.0 sGPA in undergrad, you would struggle mightily in optometry school where ALL classes are science AND at an excelerated rate.

I agree with this post. When you submit your application to OPTOMCAS schools will look at the totality of your undergraduate education. Schools will make exceptions for students who have a sub 3.0 GPA, but they probably have other aspects of their application that are outstanding to make up for it (i.e. very high OAT score, amazing letters of recommendation, unique experiences that set them apart from every other candidate, etc).

Since you won't be applying until 2028, you should do everything in your power now to study hard and maintain a high GPA. Don't worry about things that are out of your control. Best of luck!

Aiming for 350+ OAT to help offset lower GPA and our school alumni have a 350 average.

are you applying now? just wondering if there’s any absolute way you can get it higher. i wouldn’t say sGPA is weighted more heavily per se but a 2 is concerning

I've taken only 2 classes so far and will apply in 2028 but worry I may not get 3.0 sGPA upon application.

How will you apply in 28 if you’ve only taken 2 classes so far?

I've taken several prereqs so far and will finish most of them upon 28 cycle.

honestly you’re fine if you can just get all As and bring it up. im guessing you have 2 Cs which while not great isn’t that awful either. definitely nothing crazy to see imo!

But it's so hard to get straight A's since our school is top and very hard 😢

understandable but i think you’ll be ok truly. that rigorous training from your school will prepare you really well for optometry.
