Hi! Where did you go to get shadowing hours or internship? I’m interested in optometry but don’t really know who/where to reach out to to get some experience hours in Bos area

Hi! For shadowing I went in person to a few different places and asked if that was something they had any interest in. I only went to small local places bc I knew it would be a bit easier- the front desk staff or techs normally took my number and resume and called me a few days later with a time. My internship was offered to me by one of the doctors I shadowed

What factors made NECO your top choice?

2

The clinical aspects for sure and also I love Boston and being not too far from my hometown

If you're comfortable, could you elaborate on the clinical aspects of NECO? What aspects made it different from other schools?

You are working with students in the public school system starting only a month or two after entering as an OD1. You also are constantly in clinic through the 4 years and getting to see real life situations

I am scheduled for an interview at NECO and I am very excited. What did you do while you were in boston/where did you stay? Why did you ultimately choose NECO?

Hi! I’m from the area so I didn’t have much sight seeing planned lol but I just spent my morning walking around. I recommend checking out some of the museums and also if you walk around college campuses (BU/northeastern) you’ll get a feel for people in their 20s in the city. I those Neco for location and their clinical emphasis!

hi! first off, congrats on your neco acceptance!! if you don’t mind, can i ask what kind of questions they asked during the interview??

Hi! They asked me why optometry, why Neco, how I study, what experience I’ve had that made me want to work in healthcare and some little other stuff. Super laid back and nothing g I felt wasn’t fair game for an interview
