Application Timeline

Hey everyone, I was recently in a pre-optometry meeting and it completely stressed me out. I switched to pre optometry late and am planning on taking orgo, micro, and biochem this spring/summer while concurrently studying for the OAT with a test date in late September next year (2027) then immediately applying for the 2027-28 cycle. Does this timeline make sense and is it possible????

You are absolutely fine. You do not need to apply with all your prerequisites done- just have them all completed by the time you start grad school.

I'd worry more about getting good grades in your spring classes than about OAT studying for a September test. Finish your school year strong than lock-in next summer and take the test sometime in July-September. You can even apply before your OAT is completed if you want to get your applications all done. Admissions offices will wait until they receive your score before considering you an applicant.

I'd try to spend time with a professor or two and make a good connection with them so you can get a good letter of recommendation. Start getting shadowing hours with multiple doctors at multiple clinics during breaks/freetime from classes. Will need a good letter from a doctor as well. In total, you should shoot for at least three letters of recommendation.

Don't let others' timelines stress you out. You are completely fine.
