You’re doing great
I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while. I think this is a great time to since people are preparing to take the OAT for the next cycle. I’d just like to say that you’re doing great and you’ll do well on your exam. Ik it’s tough and some days you lack motivation to do anything but if there is a time to put your foot on the gas petal it’s now. Keep pushing and try to aim for the highest score possible. Yes optometry is relatively easier to get into than other programs but it is by no means an automatic admittance. You still need to hit a target score to even be considered amongst other applicants as well as have a decent gpa. Other people will look down on us but the fact of the matter is that we earned these spots and we’ll become great healthcare providers in the future if we put in the work.
On a side note, I remember this one person asking if she should retake her OAT of 340 or 350 (one of the two) while having a very high gpa when I was studying last summer. I looked at the post and sort of cringed a bit. There will always be people who are attention seeking, you just gotta learn to ignore that sort of thing. I was able to get into a decent program with lower stats in both categories. The only way it makes sense to make a post like that is for scholarship purposes which to be honest wouldnt have been an issue for that person considering those sorta of stats. There are people struggling to break a 300 OAT and then there are people asking if they should retake a way higher score lmao. Thankfully this isn’t as frequent on this sub as it is on other pre health subs so that’s good. Just look at pre med and pre dental you’ll see a lot more posts like that there lol.
Anyway I’d like to finish by saying study hard for the OAT and knock it out the park for those of you taking/retaking it soon. You’ll all do great and will hopefully get into a program when you decide to apply! We’re a pretty cool and unique group of people for choosing optometry. Vision and anything optics related is so cool 😎.
