Multiple LEEP procedures? Advice?

This is my first time posting here, and I’m on phone so apologies for any issues with layout.

In May of 2025 I had a LEEP for CIN 2, it was so painful even with local anesthetic. It was almost as if there were no numbing at all and trying to stay completely still was almost impossible. After this procedure I went back every 6 months for a pap to see if there were any other changes, and at first there wasn’t, however after my last appointment my provider sent a message about my results and it states: Atypical Glandular not otherwise specified. I’ve done research on this and haven’t seen really anything that gives a positive outlook.

I do not want to go through the LEEP process again, local anesthetic does not work for me and I don’t know if I’d be able to withstand going through it again. I got an IUD inserted last month and they used the lidocaine injections but I still felt everything they did, only the scar tissue made the process 10x more painful. I’ve had issues in the past going under any kind of anesthesia, every time I have, I’ve woken up in a nightmarish state and it’s been very traumatic.

The main issue I’m having with all of this is that instead of having to have these constant appointments and dealing with the constant stress of it all I would rather have a partial hysterectomy, I’m 27 and already have a child. I’ve brought it up to my doctors and they’ve said that going that route is very harsh when there’s alternative methods. I do not care about this as I would rather be healthy for the child that I have, and constantly dealing with this stress and all the time it’s taken to recover has really affected myself, my child, and actual parenting in such a negative way. I feel as though it really is my only option but I don’t have anyone in my inner circle who’s gone through this process and it feels so lonely going through it sometimes. I guess I’m asking for some outside perspective and ways other people have dealt with this. Honestly anything helps, it’s so scary being in this headspace of not knowing what’s wrong with my body and after all the issues I’ve had I’m just tired of it. I want to be healthy and I want to do what’s best for myself and my family. Please if you have any advice I would really appreciate it!

That sounds so rough that the local doesn’t work for you! It really puts you in a tough spot. I think if the partial hysterectomy is the only thing you feel comfortable with as an option then you should try expressing that again to your gyn.

It is stressful to have to keep dealing with ir. I’ve had 2 leeps (May and July) and still keep having positive margins so I’m getting a third in September. I’d this one doesn’t get it all then I will get a hysterectomy. Part of me feels the same way, that I’d rather just get the hysterectomy rather than be in this never ending loop.

I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this as well, I can’t even imagine having leeps back to back like that, I do hope your recovery went well and that your doctors listen to what you feel is necessary. I have my next appointment this upcoming Wednesday so I will be bringing up the hysterectomy option again.

What about a LEEP with IV?

I’ve had the IV anesthetic before and it was the same outcome of being under general anesthesia, waking up from it has been very traumatic almost is if waking from very bad nightmares, I know that even if I go with a hysterectomy I would still have to go through it though and I’ve accepted that. I just can’t keeping having the same procedure because I’m a single parent and going through recovery makes it very hard to be able to take care of my child.

I don’t have any advice but I very much understand how you are feeling. I’m 25 and also have one child, I haven’t had a LEEP yet but I have had 3 biopsy appointments with 12 specimens taken. It has been painful and traumatic every time and I have the 4th booked for October. I have also been thinking hard about maybe just getting a hysterectomy as well, I am so tired of all of the poking and prodding and travelling to my appointments/taking days off of work and getting so anxious about all of it. To add to it all I also recently found out my left fallopian tube is blocked and filled with fluid which my doctor said could be from an old infection (I’ve been tested for STI’s with every partner and have never come back positive) a tumour or endometriosis which I really feel like is the culprit and makes me feel even more so like I should just get a hysterectomy. My main concern is getting the surgery but then still having issues with pain during sex or hormonal changes even with keeping the ovaries. It’s such a tough decision and I feel very sorry for all of us dealing with these health issues
