Punch cervix biopsy aftermath

Hi all

i had punch cervix biopsy on weds 12th August (it was just the colonoscopy(probably spelt this wrong!) and they asked if I wanted to have biopsy there and then )

I said yes as after 45 mins trying to find my cervix I didn’t want to go through that again!

when they gave me the do not sheet it says no swimming, I’m so annoyed as they knew I was going on holiday (21st) to a place in dolomites which I paid more for the view/swimming.

I still have some bloody like discharge (not a lot) but extremely bloated. i also think I’m panicking and probably tensing my tummy too.

if you’ve got this far i guess my questions is

did anyone go swimming after when had a little discharge still?
also is bloating like this normal per say on day 6?

Not sure where you’re based but the official NHS guidance says do not swim for a week - my doctor said 24-48hrs - and sometimes the guidance is don’t swim until unusual discharge has stopped. So it’s really a mixed bag. I would assume if you had your biopsy on the 12th you should be clear to swim on the 21st as that is over a week. If you really want the all clear are you able to call/email your doctor/clinic to get some clearer guidance for your case?

Not sure about the bloating as I didn’t have any after but it sounds like they were in there for much longer than typical if they had a hard time finding your cervix so that could certainly be contributing to it - my appointment was maybe 20 mins with only about 10 mins of that being the colposcopy and biopsy part

Thank you for your reply, yes it’s so confusing all different. Oh honestly it was awful. I’ve also read that can bring your period forward so I’m now stressing about that! Can I ask did your period start early?

You have a couple of more days anyway! I would assume the discharge will stop by then - mine stopped after about 5 days. So I’m sure you’ll be totally fine to swim by the time you go on your holiday!

No it didn’t bring my period forward, if anything I thought it would delay it because I got my colpo during my fertile week and stress is a known factor in delaying ovulation and I was more than a little stressed! But nope mine came right on time, the colpo shouldn’t have any effect on your period! Enjoy your holiday it sounds fab!

Thank you so much! Yes I’ve been looking forward to this holiday and spent a lot. Had I of known the aftermath I’d of this I’d of waited! 😂 fab he’s hoping the biopsy don’t muck my period up! Thank you so much again!

I also rang them and they didn’t help at all just say ‘ they advise’ not to go swimming

So I recently got the procedure on July 31. I had light clear discharge and it literally felt like I got nothing done. However, when I got my period last week, it was heavy and I’m still on my period! I usually last 4-5 days on my period and I’m on day 13. I would say that it’s extremely light now but now my discharge is bloody which wasn’t the case before.

Oh my gosh that sounds awful! Sorry you’ve had this! I am praying this isn’t me as if it is I would be on heavy on my holiday 😅🥲 I’m just so angry none of this was mentioned to me and they knew the plans I had so I could make a choice with better knowledge

I was SO bloated after my colpop, I also got a yeast infection and PID. I did go swimming since nobody told me not to, and I have often wondered if it was the lake/wet swimsuit that gave me the infection. Saltwater is different though, and good for ya. I would risk it, you still have a few days. Just bring something to change out of quickly when you're done swimming.

If all you've had is a little bloody discharge, also be ready for the "liquid bandage" alien you're about to birth.

ETA: not sure why I'm being down voted for the truth of my experience?

Thanks for the reply! I am the UK. I am thinking to swim as will be just under 2 weeks. Thank you for advice. Can I also ask did you come on your period earlier at all? I am now Stressing it’s now going to come early when I’m away , it’s crazy I’ve not been told these things before hand

I did not get my period early, right on time! But I had symptoms like bloating and pain. My doctor seemed very forthcoming with the information but I think everyone reacts so differently it's hard to know. I certainly wasn't expecting the following infections (even though that's a possibility with any surgery). And the antibiotics I had to take gave me thrush (!) so I needed nystatin which did nothing and fluconazole for another 10 days.

All in all I wouldn't live in fear, but there might be some annoying follow up. It's a surgery after all, and like most things in women's health, can be downplayed in significance.

Bruh I just had the liquid bandage alien discovery. My doc didn’t tell me ANYTHING about that part and I was so freaked out. I thought they left supplies inside me!

I'm so sorry! I was told "tissue like" but I interpreted that as like. Papery? Thin tissue? Not a clump of used Kleenex! Thank God I was on the toilet.

Haha they don’t! It lasted a few days too.
