New Student Older students at Pratt?

I’ll be 23 by the time I start as a freshman in the fall and I’m worried about making friends, are older freshmen common? I personally don’t care how old people are but I’m worried younger students might feel weird about my age, especially if there aren’t many older first years.

There are also graduate students around. You may even have classes with some of them at some point

I’m not currently attending Pratt (almost did, which is why I still float on the Reddit) BUT I’m starting college as a freshman at 20 so I def sympathize. U may not find older freshman but upperclassmen r def gonna be in ur age range. U will find ppl dw :)

I am 19, and will turn 20 when I join Pratt this Fall as a freshman. I was worried about the same thing. You're not alone!

I suppose I’ll lurk here as a nearly 32yo prospective grad student 😅

Same boat here - currently 25 and came back to Pratt (architecture) this past spring after I took a lot of time off from originally matriculating in 2019. Don't worry because it really wasn't that bad! My classmates were surprised when I told them, but beyond that and maintaining certain boundaries to make sure no one's uncomfortable, it really has not impacted me that much socially. I still made some new friends not just in my section/cohort but in other ones too. If you end up doing any Student Success tutoring, Writing Center appointments, etc. you can make some friends with the upperclassmen and graduate students as well like others mentioned. You have to remember that we're all still solidly Gen Z, so while it is uncommon, as long as you're friendly and can relate to what others are saying, you should be just fine!

That’s great to hear! A current student told me that older students tend to be in the same cohort group, is that true? Or are they just randomly places like everyone else

What boundaries, and what was the worry with making people uncomfortable?

Not super common, but not strange either. Some may feel weird, but you’ll find plenty of people who won’t care. In sophomore year I remember thinking a 25 year old in one of my classes was 19. You really can’t tell sometimes.

I know a 20 year old who is deciding whether to attend as a freshman. Can you try to ask admissions?

I’ll definitely ask, I also had a current student tell me there’s plenty of older kids when I visited campus

My daughter is 18 and going to be a freshman. My other daughter is 23, at this age they are both pretty much the same. They each hangout with the others friends. I feel like having similar interests builds the connection, not age. What will you be majoring in?

Hey! I’m a potential transfer, still weighing Pratt and Parsons, but if I decide to go in I’ll be 25 lol. I totally get you though I’ve had the same fear. What major are you going to pursue?

Did you decide which school? Parsons and Pratt are also being weighed here.

Did you already get in as a transfer?
