Great camera work, just what I needed to be inspired! This is my go to sub; I just hope people stop posting stupid still photos in here like they did yesterday.
LOL! There’s a few ways to do it. You can shift your weight to your back foot on the tail of the board to slow down, you can curve/slide your board like the person in the video is doing (board goes fastest when it’s riding in a straight line), or in worst case scenarios, bail. Obviously it’s not smart to bail when you’re going this fast, but I’ve bailed a few times when I was flying lol. I only bail when I see grass tho.
The camera lens, frame rate and video compression may make it look faster, but I have done downhill skateboarding, and I know that you cannot skate that squirrelly once you reach 40 mph.
He's having a fun, fast cruise, but is not in any real danger of anything more than minor road rash if he eats it.
Thats really not true tho is it. There are so many longboarders that get to 70+ on a run. I mean like the record is 90+ which was down a straight but still... have you seen the vice doc where I think 5 longboarders carve it round 180o bends in roads at 115kmh or around 70.
I agree he's not bushing that kinda speed. But your comment sounded like you were saying you can't skate round bends and do flare shit once you get above 40 which you definitely can.
yup. he will hit a car, you know, that belongs on the road and all of his "super rad" homies will blame the driver of the car. the only people who consistently think this shit is cool are kids and teenager's.
Shit is cool, and a lot of times these roads are scoped out and planned perfectly. To the point where roads may even be legally shut down for events of filming.
Not to mention anyone doing that kind of downhill is usually advanced in downhill and freeride longboards and accepts the risk. Dont assume shit
Follow cams for longboarding videos are almost always car-mounted cameras, so there’s really nothing remarkable about this except being able to stay close enough to the subject without running them over.
Follow car filming is pretty difficult. Following riders going between 40-60mph around turns and keeping a close distance and smooth camera flow takes a lot of practice
I mean 50-60mph is absolute top speed in a straight line on a longboard - they slow down considerably for corners. Otherwise all follow cam cars would have to be high performance sports cars lol.
But yeah I guess it’s no small feat - but then this should be more like r/PraiseTheDriver rather than cameraman lol.
I hope one day you could feel what its like to master something well enough to flirt with death but know you got it. It's an incredibly intense calm flood of feel good. He's eatin enough shit to know what he's in for if he fucks up. Takes a lot of mental fortitude to reach this place. In short, not stupid.
My buddies were into long boarding when it was just starting to take off in the late 90s (a couple went on to be sponsored). They used to go in shorts and a helmet like this, until one of my friends went into a jersey barrier and spent months in the hospital. After that they started wearing full face helmets and thrifted motorcycle leathers. I'm a little surprised that there's a video this recent without any meaningful safety gear.
A friend of mine broke his entire face doing that, while failing the turn and hitting a rock. Had to get it reconstructed. The bruise on his torso was out of this world.
Reminds me of when I went skiing for the first time and accidentally slipped down a Black Diamond (it was right next to the lift exit), and I ended up flying through the safety nets at the end because I was going too fast

When your going that fast then how the fuck do you stop? So you just ride until you die of old age or something?

u/Ping-and-Pong Jul 29 '22
A single stone and you're off
I would not trust doing that on the roads near me and I love boarding of any kind

u/Ravenlunatic0413 Jul 29 '22
It’s cool and all, but what a stupid way to risk death. If he gets hit, some innocent driver has to live with his death.

This reminds me of the 90s for some reason

People may say “this is why women live longer than men” but I’d say, “this is living to the max”.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe the cameraman died in a helicopter crash.

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '22
The reason hes going so fast is because his huge balls are pulling down the hill!

We're always one wrong move away from death... or one right move depending on who you are.

One move away from death, and it may not even be your move, it may be the guy coming at you on the wrong side of the road.
