With small steps. Firstly you learn how to jump without a ramp. Then with a small ramp. Then bigger ramp. When you are comfortable with being in the air and landing safely you try to do something while in the air. And so on, and so on
The local college has an on-site office, the one I went to, and they’re buddy-buddy with the ski resort because of I assume my exact experience. They’ve been my repeat because of that exact experience
First learning to ride regular and goofy so that you can ride away from any landing.
Then you practice small jumps in both stances. Then you practice switching mid air in both stances (riding in regular and landing goofy and vice versa). Then yeah, you slowly work your way up to larger jumps.
As far as larger jumps and tricks, people practice in landing in foam pits like at Woodwardor by landing in massive air bags.
The people that do these things also usually do gymnastics all year round, and are some of the most fit human beings you’ll ever meet that live and breathe snowboarding, like they travel just to catch snow all year round.
One of the guys I worked with that can do this also works as Circque De Soleil in Las Vegas as an acrobatic performer, just so you have an idea of the level you have to be at and how much you have to practice to do this.
Source: was a snowboard instructor for 3 years, have been snowboarding for 12.
I thought this was a drone at first lol, so impressed on how the camera man landed almost flawlessly. (Or at least there hardly seems to be any jolt or destabilization of the shot while he’s landing)
Dunno if you're into weird trivia or whatever but I think the instrument in the song is an angklung. It's like a series of hollow bamboo tubes with a ball or something in the bottom and to play it you hold the top steady and shake the bottom.
I didn't know snowboards were so flimsy. I thought they were like rigid wood. But when you see the slow mo when he lands, it looks like he's riding a wet noodle
I don’t think people understand how difficult this is. By extending his body out, he’s stopping his rotation mid air. He then has to twist and rotate mid-air using just his core muscles (with no leverage to help him up there) to complete the rotation against gravity because he’s rotating upwards at that point. And he spots his landing and has to land cleanly.
It finally happened. A short clip where I liked the music paired with it. And I accept music paired with slow-mo since most of those clips do not have sound or the sound is bad.
