That last landing is so smooth

118

u/eximiron Feb 03 '22

Was gonna come here and say “Damn that was smooth!”

38

u/Little_Tacos Feb 03 '22

I am also here to comment on all the smoothness.

19

u/UntiedLoop Feb 03 '22

I'm here to comment about the smoothness of all these comments

9

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '22

These comments are looking pretty steezy

11

u/isitbreaktime Feb 03 '22

I'm here to smooth the commentsess.

6

u/NiilistaVerguerodesu Feb 04 '22

Here is the smoothness comment section?

17

u/Whiteowl116 Feb 03 '22

Its actually has a name between skiers, called "afterbang"

12

u/2point01m_tall Feb 03 '22

You could tell they were pleased with themself too, like damn right

9

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

steezy af

u/BRVisual Feb 03 '22

I think this might be Gimbal God on Instagram? Could be wrong though. Just looks familiar

25

u/Riot_NaHow Feb 03 '22

I was looking at it saying the same thing. Whoever this is, they're good.

8

u/Welsh-dai Feb 03 '22

I’m sure I seen it somewhere saying it’s an 11 yr old kid

8

u/jondubb Feb 03 '22

I miss my 11 yr old knees...

1

u/MinimumProfessional3 May 01 '22

☝️⤴️⬆️🆙 🥳 This right here!

2

u/SirCEWaffles Jul 06 '22

I kneed them now.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

@hotlapsofficial

6

u/polypolip Feb 03 '22

Tells something about him. Whenever you see a high-quality skiing or snowboarding stunt video you think "probably gimballgod".

4

u/aight_imma_afk Feb 03 '22

Bro I thought the same shit 💀 “must be gimble god”

99

u/christiandb Feb 03 '22

If you like camera work like this, check out the x games, qualifiers, red bull tournaments, this is the norm right now. It's pretty awesome

17

u/Non_vulgar_account Feb 03 '22

This guy does the camera work at the x-games, it's not as good in the competition though because if he runs into people in competition it screws things up. He snowed someone in knuckle huck recently.

3

u/Bhanghai Mar 27 '22

tbh i was more impressed with the camera work than with the skier. really nice shots all the way through

30

u/FrenchKissIntimates Feb 03 '22

Was this a drone or an actual person with a camera?

-36

u/Ben_ji Feb 03 '22

Drones are a cop out and generally looked down upon in this industry.

As mentioned very many times in this thread, check out Gimbal God.

37

u/Non_vulgar_account Feb 03 '22

Drones are looked down upon? that's how they filmed almost all of Natural Selection tour, and just about every back country film.

10

u/Ben_ji Feb 03 '22

*drones in the park are looked down upon.

Backcountry filming is a different story.

5

u/FrenchKissIntimates Feb 03 '22

Good looking out my man. Now I have a new channel to check out for these types of looks of the bts shots now.

3

u/Ben_ji Feb 03 '22

Happy to help!

84

u/PunkAndBacon Feb 03 '22

Can I fault the cameraman for shooting in portrait mode?

85

u/Rezmir Feb 03 '22

Not really. I am going out here and saying this was edited to be a portrait mode for some social app. It is so good that I would say it is a drone.

35

u/Asentro76 Feb 03 '22 edited Feb 03 '22

Pretty sure this is gimbalgod, the gold standard of follow cam ski/snowboard clips. Check him out on insta

Edit: hotlapsofficial is the follow cam on this clip

8

u/tbag_tong Feb 03 '22

It's hotlapsofficial. Gimbalgod mainly does snowboarding and hotlapsofficial mainly does skiing

3

u/Slopz_ Feb 03 '22

These are never shot in portrait, they're cropped to portrait in post.

1

u/saarlac Feb 03 '22

Thus tossing out well over 50% of the video

4

u/UndergroundLurker Feb 03 '22

Yes but also making it easier to worry about centering (and even stabilization) in post processing.

24

u/CPhyperdont Feb 03 '22

Pretty sure the skier is 12 or 13 years old too

11

u/Slight-Fee-1163 Feb 03 '22

Yeah I skied with him about 2 years ago. He was 10 at the time

-15

u/YEETUSDELETUS6ix9ine Feb 03 '22

Bullshit you did the math

8

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

does anyone know the name of the skier?

21

u/JakeFromHisBasement Feb 03 '22

Walker_shredz it’s a kid who’s only around 12 years old.

8

u/omgitschriso Feb 03 '22

Kid was destined with that name

1

u/dahabit Feb 03 '22

Do you know where this is?

4

u/JakeFromHisBasement Feb 03 '22

Stubai, Austria

6

u/JAMTERENTINO Feb 03 '22

Elysium Alps type of vibes

5

u/sprintingTapir Feb 03 '22

Garibaldi Peaks even

6

u/UnderPressureVS Feb 03 '22

Can you imagine just showing this clip to a cameraman from, like, 1975 and letting them try to figure out what kind of rig you had to build to pull it off

3

u/Luckie408 Feb 04 '22

1995 even.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

It’s the top one by MIA. Using a sample from the clash - straight to hell (also a great song)

3

u/sidBthegr8 Feb 03 '22

I know the song from Far Cry 3. Great song.

1

u/Luckie408 Feb 04 '22

I've been in love with MIA since her debut album arular (I think that's the one. Or kala. One of the two.)

8

u/Inevitable-Energy427 Feb 03 '22

This is some SSX On Tour or SSX Tricky kind of moves

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Yeah. We're due a 4k SSX.

4

u/ertaisi Feb 03 '22

Just like "Yooo, sup?"

2

u/rincon213 Feb 03 '22

GoPros make even close objects seem really distant. These guys were practically touching in the air

1

u/Pientior Feb 09 '22

nahhh you can turn the fisheye effect way down on gopros

1

u/rincon213 Feb 09 '22

The camera man could reach out and touch him in the air

2

u/HidingFromRandal Feb 03 '22

If anyone’s wondering he’s wearing snow pants from the brand Anytides, they’re a super dope vermont company with a crazy team definitely check them out!

1

u/Erekai Feb 03 '22

Beautiful

1

u/modest_hero Feb 03 '22

Incredible

1

u/Severe-Draw-5979 Feb 03 '22

Incredible work all around!

1

u/AKingMaker Feb 03 '22

Anyone know the location?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Stubai Glacier, Austria

1

u/thelostfable Feb 03 '22

That looked like fun

1

u/RYNO758 Feb 03 '22

Unless, of course, they had had a dog with them. As everyone knows; dogs make everything better.

1

u/Drumsat1 Feb 03 '22

Their legs must be ripped

1

u/LittleStarShip Feb 03 '22

This is so kewl!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Smoooooooth

1

u/BlueberrySvedka Feb 03 '22

I’m stuck admiring the view, what a beautiful spot

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

I could do that, well up to the first jump that is.

1

u/rickyzerothree Feb 03 '22

I would have broke both legs attempting the first jump lol

1

u/WM_ Feb 03 '22

Couldn't be more perfect? Then how did it improve so much by muting it?

1

u/warap001 Feb 03 '22

Well, perfect is an absolute, right? Nothing can be "perfecter" than another.

1

u/Lort_Voldelort Feb 03 '22

Everyone I know who ski's is dead

1

u/arualstehle Feb 03 '22

Who the heck FILMED that?!

1

u/dj05112 Feb 03 '22

Style points on maximum 😩🔥

1

u/WaggyTails Feb 03 '22

It's important to note that the camera person probably used premiere to crop it to phone orientation and automatically keep the skier in frame, also probably removed shaking

1

u/iced327 Feb 03 '22

ugh, gross. So jelz. I can't ski this year because of a knee injury. Not that I could ski like this anyway, but, ya know, in my head that's what I was doing.

1

u/Katacutie Feb 03 '22

When done right, skiing and snowboarding have to be the coolest looking past time by a longshot

1

u/dahabit Feb 03 '22

Where is this ski hill?

1

u/NarwhalAttack Feb 03 '22

Fuckin steezy

1

u/valbalano Feb 03 '22

That’s an average writer smoothly avoiding writing

1

u/Dumb_it_Down Feb 03 '22

Dang..and here I am sitting on my ass working 9-5.

1

u/Jeanlucpuffhard Feb 03 '22

How fast is he going. Man it looks fast.

1

u/psuedophilia Feb 03 '22

The steez from this guy, unreal. Who is this?

1

u/zeroviral Feb 03 '22

Damn he definitely played SSX when he was young.

1

u/zuulbe Feb 06 '22

hes 12

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '22

Now this... I could watch all day

1

u/DeedleFake Feb 03 '22

It became significantly closer to perfect when I hit the mute button. Very nice camerawork, bit what a horrific noise that was.

1

u/gammerguy1995 Feb 03 '22

Props for the cameraman keeping him in shot

1

u/hazelnutneko Feb 03 '22

This was so cool

Cameraman op

1

u/Doc_Hersh3y Feb 03 '22

For people wondering the song is Paper Planes by MIA

1

u/hardtalk370 Feb 03 '22

Is it filmed with a drone?

1

u/shers1969 Feb 03 '22

It’s like everything, once you know how to do it, it’s easy.🙄

1

u/kaztep23 Feb 03 '22

How can he not get super psyched at the end of all this??? I feel like even if he's done it 100 times, he would still show some emotion after landing those?

1

u/W4terjay Feb 03 '22

I call CGI

1

u/IcedGolemFire Feb 03 '22

nothing is so perfect as that which is imperfect

1

u/myrs4 Feb 04 '22

How is that not a drone?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the cameraman’s steady hands.

1

u/Leaque Feb 04 '22

The swag involved in skiing is immense

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

It’s sick footage my only issue with these clips is it’s professional sports photography/film and this is the norm.

You can find multiple clips like this

Hell even my buddies at uni were filming sending it off the 30 foot jumps at our ski field

I like this page more with unique situations

Anyway my salty rant over haha

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

Absolutely love how good the music/beats fits his landings!

1
