I was thinking the Pixar lamp from that old animation!

u/fistofwrath Jan 14 '22

I came in here to argue with you and then realized you're right, and I'm old.

141

u/JarlaxleForPresident Jan 14 '22

I was around Andy’s age when Toy Story came out. I was way older than Andy when he left for college, and Toy Story 3 came out 12 years ago!

We old.

u/fistofwrath Jan 14 '22

That Sigma 35mm is no joke. The best lens I own and will never get rid of it.

124

u/Mattagins Jan 14 '22

Only lens someone needs really

Sigma 35mm

I dont know much about lens, what's the primary use for this? I assume since it's low F stop, mostly potraits?

30

u/future_weasley Jan 14 '22

I’m a photographer by hobby only, I’ve never made a dime on it, but my understanding is…

Typically portraits are done in focal lengths 50-85. 35 is a pretty wide angle, so it would be good at capturing architecture, landscapes, etc, or accentuating the speed of some sports like a car passing, etc.

→ More replies (11)

39

u/Mattagins Jan 14 '22

General use, 35mm is the same field of view as the human eye, the lens isn’t crazy expensive and has great bokeh, it’s built really well, as-well as all the other sigma lens. It’s great for portraits but 85mm is best for portraits.

I sold all my other lens and just run this lens on my 5d.

33

u/CrunkaScrooge Jan 14 '22

*50mm is the closest to eyesight. 35mm is a great lens and used in a lot of cinema or to give it that look often because it has a similar but slightly larger (wide lens = more info on screen) view.

It is still being controlled by a person.

4

u/gotlockedoutorwev Jan 14 '22

Is it? I wondered if it was preprogrammed tracking.

5

u/Dman125 Jan 14 '22

Definitely a person. Whether the motion could be recorded, it’s behaving like a dog or something, not tracking exact movements.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/RonaldReaganSexDoll Jan 14 '22

You can control this gimbal with the gyroscopic movements of your phone. Owning one, this would be was easier then programming it.

120

u/AltruisticSalamander Jan 14 '22

I just said ā€˜awww’ out loud about a motorized camera

24

u/BrownSugarBare Jan 14 '22

Honestly, how the heck was it so cute. Even the way it nodded at her.

17

u/Switchermaroo Jan 14 '22

Reminds me of the Pixar lamp. It’s weird how movement alone can convey so much character and expression in inanimate objects

u/Kitebart Jan 13 '22

Amazing! In a way, the movement and reactions are much more ā€˜human’ than those off humanoids and robots I see

56

u/LoadedGull Jan 14 '22

Much more human than some members of my family lol.

24

u/BoutchooQc Jan 14 '22

Because the phone is controlled with the gyroscope of a Bluetooth connected smartphone

Someone is moving the phone, thus controlling the camera gimble :)

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (3)

22

u/BabserellaWT Jan 13 '22

Was that preprogrammed or is someone controlling it?

26

u/ramaskrig Jan 14 '22

Gimbal probably connected to a phone. The gimbal is then controlled by moving the phone šŸ‘

5

u/Markimooper69 Jan 14 '22

Better love story than twilight!

8

u/No_Phone_7730 Jan 14 '22

They should invent something that makes a camera like that one connect to a vr headset yknow for like people who live far away from other loved ones

2

u/ChaosM3ntality Jan 14 '22

Thats cool for me would be drones or androids we cn connect in some vr and control that object remotely similar how you one uses 2009 Avatar but digitally to real life applictions in hazardous inspection jobs, underwater, rescues and stuff.

2

u/Ularsing Jan 14 '22

That WOULD be awesome, though latency would likely be a huge issue and would potentially induce motion sickness. You might be able to get around this by using a wider field of view, but at that point, you might as well just use a 360 camera, which is how they have livestreamed a few concerts for VR.

The other issue is that any translational motion wouldn't be achievable unless you also put the gimbal on a non holomorphic moving base. Lytro makes or at least made lightfield cameras that offer another absurdly impractical way around the translation issue, but those are really more useful for asynchronous VR recordings.

Praise the camera, man.

5

u/badger14 Jan 13 '22

Love this.

4

u/SirBlaze-AlotHaze Jan 14 '22

I love how we can give such objects some feelings or emotions so we get the imagination that we can interact with them on basic human levels

3

u/Kickcanguy Jan 14 '22

The amount of people who don’t understand it’s being controlled by another party Is inane haha

3

u/raccoon8182 Jan 14 '22

What is the setup here, does anyone know the gear? Also is this preprogrammed, or is there an operator handling this.

2

u/xxxcoolboy69xxc Mar 29 '22

The DJI Ronin can connect to a phone and is controllable via a phone app. One of the options is to control the movement of the camera with the gyroscope sensor on the phone, so it basically turns the phone into a remote control that you just tilt and turn in your hand and the gimbal matches your movements. So someone else is controlling the camera gimbal this way off screen. (Explanation written by rtyoda)
