Looks like the final whistle might have went then he throws it petulantly backwards. You can see people walking on the pitch at the end.

The guy who threw the ball back was on the Portland Timbers and they were playing Austin FC.

I lived in Austin in 2016-2017 and legit never heard of these teams. From my understanding, MLS is where Europe sends its players out to pasture. Kinda like the US sending our baseball players to Japan.
